For all you experts, and human rights activists

Is it racist to hate or dislike certain accents? ie when people speak English but with accent

People from some countries have very distinctive accents, For example Russians speaking English or Indians speaking English etc

Lets keep Irish and Scottish out of it as these two speak a language of their own yet to be understood by the rest of English speaking world????????

Fire away with your thoughts

First of all, I wouldn't say it is racist at all. Just my opinion..

Second, you make such a thread with this topic yet you want to exclude Irish and Scottish yet used an example of Russians or Indians speaking English...

The original post along with it's title seems silly to me...not to mentioned "in a tunnel".  Just my opinion..

Must everyone be an "expert" or HRA to say anything regarding this?

Seems just about any comment can be twisted and perceived as racist or xenophobic in this day and age

Depends upon the rationale of the person or people you are talking to.......

But no, a dislike of a particular mannerism surely cannot be racist. Can it?..........

I would suggest that it's perfectly acceptable to dislike a Birmingham or Midlands accent, but you probably wouldn't want to admit to hating a Black Country accent...

(Only Brit's need reply to this...)

so in other words, all the Thais who make considerable effort to speak english with some brainless farang beer bellies who cannot utter a word of Thai,  after 10 years in the country with their barstool girls......these Thais are to be frowned upon because they speak english with an accent ? ... accent discrimination is not even racist....it is just stupid beyond limits.

Racist means you harm other based on race (or sex or gender or what ever)

Racist doesn't mean that at all - the political left abbreviated the now disused word 'racialist' (meaning the dislike of a particular race) to become 'racist' so as to make it sound more like 'fascist'. This allows them to use 'racist' it as a political catch all label to condemn even those who merely acknowledge obvious differences between cultures, so as to shut down debate. Fascists are evil, but in equal measure so are the (very similar) communists that the left still refuses to denounce - Stalin, for example, murdered just as ruthlessly as Hitler did.

It's a shame that the politically right conservatives have allowed this all to happen without challenging it, and have now been almost completely subdued by the 'politically correct' leftist system of thought.

That's quite alright. But so as to save space, you might just want to ignore posts if you don't understand them, or if you feel unable to contend the points they contain.

You again confusing being able to speak with speaking but with an accent.

To me Irish, Scottish,American etc all speak the same language but with different dialects.

It is just my personal interpretation.

Non bar English and bar English have different accents. by that i do not mean non bar speaks more proper English, but bar English is shouting and speaking much harder, language learned from listening drunk talk.

Russians speaking English sounds very rude and rather rough to an ear, Indian speaking English to me sounds very funny. Chinese speaking English sometimes gets very annoying because of full stops they make during a sentence for some reason.

I have no doubt some Thai may find foreigners speaking Thai annoying due to an accent, but again foreigners from different countries would have different accent,  For example my French mate you to say shai mai, instead of chai mai, Looks different in writing, but when speaking the sound is same but slightly different.

Then my dear fellow, I admit that your first post on this thread did confuse and consequently confuse my humble interpretation. Have a nice day,

Many accents strike my ear unpleasantly, just like certain types of music I don't like listening to, or foods that I don't enjoy the taste of. If I want to watch the news on television, I'll choose an announcer with an American accent over an English accent every time. My nephew speaks with 'vocal fry' because he thinks it makes him sound more knowledgeable...sounds stupid to me. Ebonics scrapes my nerves the wrong way, an dat be da truf. You feel me?
