I wrote single entry non-o not a multiple entry non-o visa. You could apply for the extension based upon marriage near the end of the 90 day entry from it.

You can travel overland to get the single entry non-o visa at the embassy in Vientiane or the consulate Savannakhet in Laos without showing financial proof. You would only need your marriage certificate, and copies of your wife's house book registry and ID card signed by her.

Thank you for the constructive advice. yes my wife have considered this as an alternative for the time being, only because we are discussing the idea of NOT sending any large amounts of money to Thailand. Thank you Joe I appreciate again your comments.

Very sorry for your situation and bad information.   As Ubon Joe mentioned- there are ways around this situation-

A..  The 60 day extension for visiting spouse can be obtained immediately from the local immigration Office.

B.  A 90 day Non Immigrant Visa- Single entry- can be obtained at Savannakhet , Laos or Ventienne.

C.  If you are from a country that provides the Embassy Letter- this could be obtained immediately.

The Immigration Office is wrong and actually the first Officer you spoke to a few months ago was correct according to the current police Order.  The provision of 40K per month exists and there is no mention in the order of it having to be a pension- just originated from abroad.  In addition, the former Immigration Commissioner did write a Memo indicating that in the first year of the new extension policy that leniency could be applied.

The 400K Money in the Bank can also be used and needs be seasoned for 2 months.

The written police order and leniency letter is pinned  in the General Thai Visa Website.

However, it appears Nonthaburi is now misinterpreting the police order so at some point the solution will be to place the 400K in the bank. However, by using the 60 day extension and then the 90 day Visa option you can buy some time until the money is seasoned and then apply for the actual extension.

Good luck to you

Thank you...

You also have the option to obtain a multi entry Non-O at Savanakhet, with no financial proof.

Then just take a short overseas break every 3 months, it's fun ????

Actually this very idea my wife and I have been considering and growing accustom to most of the day. Thank you for this sound and wise advice. It solves the problem of not wanting to transfer millions to Thailand (which under the current political situation I am reluctant to do), and it provides an opportunity to travel and spend time with the kids...there are actually some intelligent people on this forum ???? and my hats off to those that responded in kind...May Christ bless you all in kind...

This is exactly the reason my wife and I have learned to NEVER ASK THEM ANYTHING as we have been given the wrong advice many times in the past only to show up again and be told that "we did not say that".  It seems to be some sort of game that they are fond of.

Similar to what happened to me tuther year. On applying for my extension/visa the officer told me I didn't need photo's next year with my application as they could do it with the camera on their computer. When I didn't give the photo's as per normal I told him the officer, I pointed him out, who told me this. The officer denied saying it. Luckily my wife had some photo's and I used those.

My belief is that give they give misinformation to try to drop farangs in the do do. Resulting in tea-money being paid.

Johny67, I feel for you and your situation,  I have been dealing with Nonthaburi Immigration for 8 years and they can be difficult to the extreme.  You still cannot do 90 day reports online and trying to register for an online TM30 account (Section 38 app) has proved to be impossible.

I can confirm that Nonthaburi have changed their requirements drastically over the past 12 months.  I am on the 800k retirement extension however we had to put up with a home visit, lots of photos and prying into our personal lives.  The two Immigration Officers who came also spoke to neighbours.

Probably not a lot of help to you now however speaking to the (large) guy who checks paperwork and allocates queue numbers has proven to be helpful.  Having a Thai asking Q's also helps.

All the best to you.

I know how you feel for I have had my fun times with Nonthaburi IO. Last Feb 2018 I had an O Visa from DC Thai Embassy. When the Embassy mailed it back, they wrote on the Visa (Thai Wife), no big deal right. I go in April 2018 with paper work for extension based on retirement. Young male IO said no go because you have a visa for married to a Thai, you can only apply for marriage extension. So, go get all the paper work for that and go back a week later. Had my wife, sister-in-law and another witness with us with two statements. Mind you we have been married for 15 years in the US and she has duel citizenship. The lady IO said all is good BUT, have to have a statement from your neighbor. Explained just moved to new housing area and the three houses on our block were not sold yet. Don’t matter, still no. So, I got a two-month extension then went to Laos and got another O to carry me to Nov. when I go back to the US anyway.

This time had an ME O Visa from Washington DC, had wife call and make sure they do not write on the Visa. They said it should not matter but explained they don’t know Nonthaburi IO.

Put 810,000 in bank, wife goes a month prior to new IO office and checks all forms, good to go, they said can do letter a few days before and also update bank book. Go to IO with letter from bank, nice little lady says everything good but need to have a deposit today. She tells us closes bank and off we go.

We deposit 100 and they update the bank book. However, when they update it prints over the 810,000. So, they make a new bank book. Get back to IO building, decide to check BB again, the bank has the 810 as the same date as the 100 just deposited on that day. Told the wife lets try anyway and see what happens. The same IO brought us back as soon as she finished the person she was with. She caught the date right from the start. She then goes to the head guy and we could see them talking. She comes back about five minutes later and to my surprise she says go make a copy of the old BB and we are good.

So, for once they used common sense.

I learned the first time the hard way, once they make up there mind the odds of you changing it or slim.

Johny67;  You stated you had a visit from Nonthaburi IO and you are on a Retirement? Can't wait, will see if they would like a few beers! I wonder if our security guys are going to escort them to the house as usual and then we have to stamp their pass?

I think I will ask if one of my new neighbor can do a statement,  he is from Australia????

can I ask, when they gave you a new bank book did they print all transactions from the old book into the new book or just the transactions relevant to your 810k deposit and immigration requirements?

A similar 'over printing' problem occurred in my bank book yesterday when I updated it. Some of the transactions from the current month have been printed on top of the previous months ones, making them unreadable, especially the important 'FTT' ones.

My old BB had three deposits, the first was 10,000 to open the account. The second was the 800,000 two days later. The third was a 100, and the letter from the bank, one day before I went to the IO on 4 April, which one IO said would be OK. On the day of the extension the IO said she had to have a deposit in the account that day. So, we went back to bank. No need to argue, just do what she asks.

We went back to the bank and did a 100 deposit, no new letter to match the new deposit. But when they updated the book it printed over the 810 and it is illegible. So, the bank lady did a new book. When the new book printed out it showed the 810,000 dated 4 April, 100 4 April (the day before) and then 100 deposit on 5 April. So, the bank had my 800,000 4 April and I am doing my extension on 5 April.

I would suggest going back to the bank and asking them for a new book and explain you have to have the dates of deposit correct for each month for the purpose of the IO. I don’t know how good your Thai is but would suggest taking some one along with fluent Thai to help you out, just from my experience. I would think they will do all the transactions but put all on the same date, the easy way for them. I would also get the bank print out, may take a few days and a few hundred baht. I am sure someone on here can give you a better understanding of the banking system.

Side note; While at the IO 5 April the wife was talking to another Thai wife married to an Australian teaching English. It was their third trip to the IO for his extension. She said every time a different IO would ask for something else. So to the poster with the problem, its not just you, it Nonthaburi IO. They have their own little idiosyncrasies to deal with.

Nonthaburi was always a difficult place. They refused to extend my working visa because my working place was in Bangkok, even I lived in Nonthaburi . CW has finaly no problem because I have lived previously in Bangkok
