webfact Posted June 20, 2019 Share Posted June 20, 2019 ISOC ready to continue NCPO’s work BANGKOK (NNT) - After the new cabinet is sworn in, the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) will end its term as stipulated by the Constitution. The responsibility of ensuring safety and peace and order will be passed on to the Internal Security Operations Command (ISOC) which will serve as the coordinator. The ISOC has confirmed that it is now ready to integrate all agencies to care for people. Major General Thanathip Sawangsaeng, the ISOC spokesman, said the structure has been organized to support the ISOC’s duty. ISOC will continue the work that has benefited and reduced the difficulties of people. ISOC will be responsible for the tasks of agencies, departments and ministries, as required by law. In addition, the ISOC will oversee security issues of all kinds, and act as an integrated unit to coordinate activities through its agencies nationwide. The main issues are integrating and directing the work of the ministries such as informal debt and social reorganization using existing laws, namely the Internal Security Act, BE 2551, and integrating them with ministerial regulations to solve problems and reduce people’s suffering. Major General Thanathip said the ISOC will continue to reorganize motorcycle taxi stands and passenger van stands. The participants of what technically was still an illegal coup are quite happy to announce to the Thai public that they will follow 5 years of total military control with more of the same from ISOC, a military run, non-elected, country wide body running in total independence from the countries parliament. I really like your post, Holy Cow CM. But to be fair to the Thais, many of them are now critical of the junta (on social media). The problem is: they don't do anything - because (understandably, perhaps) they daren't … Yes true and to keep the post short with no real depth, the answer a couple of years ago from 2 big Thai business owner friend guys, one from Bangkok and one from Issan was how can we do anything against tanks and guns? So the answer is they were and are concerned for their welfare and their families welfare as in retrospect there are no capped lengths that the bad guys won't go to make sure that everything is silenced. So only now is a good and opportune time for the opposition in the government and private groups to strike out and see what they can do to change the situation since the fat head is supposedly a civilian now and the government democratic so to speak. I suppose if you look at the sheer numbers involved - a B100 per week contribution from each motorcycle taxi, and say B500 from each passenger van ( perhaps more for the lucrative routes) amounts to a considerable amount of cash, and will go a long way towards the inevitable "overhead costs" of managing these public transport services. Still, as it is in the hands of the military, at least we can be certain that there will be a strict "service funds management policy' in place. ???? That "law" was established by Article 44 in November 2017. Note that Prayut was a former head of ISOC. ISOC has been referred by the military during the Prayut regime as the military's political arm. But as explained by Maj Gen Peerawach Saengthong: "There's no politics to see here. Our provincial units will be headed by ISOC provincial directors, who double as provincial governors." PS: ISOC is NOT a democratic organization. Its leadership is not elected. 10 hours ago, webfact said: the structure has been organized to support the ISOC’s duty. That "structure" was termed by Prayut as a 'security superboard.' As integrated into local power structures, it essentially will act as as check against any democratic efforts to diminish authority of the Thai military throughout the whole of Thai society.
