'passenger areas' 'CARRIED on planes' that refers to hand luggage.

Upon re-read, you may well be right....  though the article would have/should have said CARRY ON luggage if that's what they really meant!

And the article headline doesn't help:

Islamic terrorism was/is a response to what?

There is no chicken or the egg mystery here.

The consequences of Islamic terrorism are ultimately a self inflicted misery on the West.

Islamic terrorism is a response to the call for Jihad over and over in the Quran, not self inflicted any more than 300 years of Islamic conquest in the middle east, Africa and Spain was 'self inflicted' I left Bkk on Sept 15th 2001, that's when the inconvenience for travellers started, took ages to get through at DM after 9/11. The date was picked as nearest to 9/12 when the Islamic army was defeated at Vienna in 1683, that attack was not self inflicted either.

Interestingly, just had a look at Thai Airways website and their info re luggage restrictions... And for right now, it doesn't made any mention of them having enforced the international restrictions on liquids and gels in carry on luggage.

But it didn't really matter much for international flights, because even if TH Air didn't enforce that on the outbound segment, the international airports in your destination countries like the U.S. DID and HAVE enforced those rules. So in the past, you might have been able to carry such items out, but you likely wouldn't have been able to bring them back thru the other airports' security screening.

Likewise, it looks like Thai Air Asia also has not been enforcing the liquids and gels restrictions on carry-on luggage either:

It's not an airline issue it's an airport issue.

https://www.airportthai.co.th/en/security-information/

As I posted above, they enforced the bans in 2007 as per the rest of the world.

1. You don't think it's odd that the airlines' websites re baggage restrictions -- which do talk about ammunition and various other things -- make no mention of the LAG restrictions.

2. If they've been enforcing LAGs all along, then what the heck is the OP article talking about some change now???

Just more confiscated stuff for the airport staff to take home

Nah, they have a waste bin where one can deposite the items. Wife got caught a few years ago with creams and other stuff, she made sure to empty everything in the waste bin. If she couldn't use it, no one else (airport staff) should.

This is correct. As usual, the confusion is caused by a poor translation of the original, leading to ambiguity. "Carried on planes" could in theory be read to include checked luggage. The language in the original Sanook article is clearer:

Compliance with the rules for the search for liquid gels, spray that will be brought on an aircraft cabin or taken into a restricted area of a public airport. (courtesy of Google Translate)

The original Thai makes it clear that this only refers to hand-carry baggage taken into the aircraft cabin, not checked luggage.

This Air Asia website has two links at the bottom for detailed lists of things that are prohibited in either check-in or carry-on luggage on their domestic and international flights.

And I don't see any mention of the LAG/100 ml restriction on either of those lists:

https://www.airasia.com/my/en/baggage.page

Instead, their domestic Thai Air Asia list has the following:

1704494018_2019-06-2411_39_29.jpg.6d05f472d105a279e311ae264197476d.jpg

The check marks in the first red column say those items are allowed in checked luggage. The check mark in the second white column says hair sprays, perfumes, etc also are allowed in carry on luggage.

And the document at the bottom says it was current as of Jan. 2019.

So it kinda makes you wonder, does one hand know what the other is doing here?

Not really 'carried' means on your person. Clear enough to me anyhow.

Poor translation is absolutely no excuse for ambiguity in aviation. The language of aviation world wide is English, both written and spoken.  if they can't get someone to do it correctly, then they should be black marked as a risk country.  Pathetic really.

This sucks.....I guess I will have to leave the Krispy Kreme donuts and the 44 Magnum at home now...

44 Magnum !! That’s a bit excessive don’t you think ??
Also, Magnums, Cornettos and most other ice cream delights are usually to be found anywhere nowadays .

Sanook is not a reliable source, I took a look to the official aot website https://www.airportthai.co.th/en/%e0%b8%a1%e0%b8%b2%e0%b8%95%e0%b8%a3%e0%b8%81%e0%b8%b2%e0%b8%a3%e0%b8%ab%e0%b9%89%e0%b8%b2%e0%b8%a1%e0%b8%99%e0%b8%b3%e0%b8%82%e0%b8%ad%e0%b8%87%e0%b9%80%e0%b8%ab%e0%b8%a5%e0%b8%a7%e0%b8%82%e0%b8%b6/ and everything is more or less like before: one can board liquids, but they must not exceed the limit of 100ml, and anyway not exceeding the total allowance of 1000ml

The way I understood the prior restrictions was...

You could take as much of those kinds of liquid and semi liquid items into your checked luggage as you wanted.... But your carry on luggage was restricted to individual items not exceeding 100 ml in size, and total quantity able to fit into a 1 quart Ziplock type bag.

If the news report above is accurate, they seem to be extending that same kind of basic restrictions now to all luggage including the check-in type.

And now, from further discussion in this thread, it appears the article headline and my presumption above about the change covering CHECKED luggage was wrong.  And the OP article in its source TH version appears to be only talking about restrictions on CARRY ON luggage, not checked luggage.

If this ban is only coming into force now, then why did an over officious customs officer take a bottle of Sun lotion off me back in January?

why is it that if this is so imprtnat an issue am i also allowed to but <deleted> I want in larger quantities at the duty free (sic) shops after i have gone through customs, yes I do know the answer.

It ain't actually flying that I don't like, it's that they seem to do everything they can to make passing through airports as miserable an experience as possible!

Hopefully it will make the already way overrated Changi as reviled as any other bus stop for aeroplanes.

Few weeks ago i departed from Swampy...in the plane i checked my bag again and found a full bottle of water that i had forgotten.

I had passed all the checkpoints with it (accidently) and made it into the plane.
