BANGKOK, 25 June 2019 (NNT) - Traffic congestion has long been a major issue in the capital. The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration has now trained city law enforcement officers to serve as traffic police assistants to help resolve incidents more effectively.

Speakers from the Royal Thai Police’s Traffic Police Division have provided information on traffic laws and the role of traffic volunteers to city law enforcement officers from 50 districts of Bangkok, as part of the training campaign for city law enforcement officers to serve as traffic police assistants.

The city officers will be assisting the work of policemen at congested areas such as schools where many parents drop off and pick up their children.

The officers will have to pass theoretical and practical training in traffic law, traffic signs, negotiations and communication protocols, accident reports, and hand signals. The training is being given to three batches of the BMA’s city officers, taking five days per each group.

What a big joke! Five days training when a minimum of ten weeks followed by two years probationary experience and training is used in countries like the UK to equip police officers with basic skills.

Probably most of the time will be spent in brushing up arithmetic for counting the “fines”.

Blind leading the blind springs to mind, whenever the RTP are involved in any sort of Police control, be that Traffic stops or directing traffic, it is a complete shambles, how can they in all honesty teach anyone anything .
