Break down Thai ‘society.’ Who rips tourists off the most? Likely, the police, so they don’t want other Thais ripping off ‘their’ tea money.

Best thing, Mr. Policeman, is to prioritize the ladyboys. They have a well-known reputation for dishonesty. You know where they are.

We don’t want to know what you do when you detain them. But we can guess what happens to the ladyboys’ money...

How about making a real example like stripping him if his taxi licence, Will send a better message than a paltry fine.

It may be rather generous to assume he had a taxi licence or even a regular driving licence. This seems not to be a requirement of the taxi cooperatives who often rent out unlicenced cabs to complete the fraud.  The right to do this is conveyed by the monthly fees paid to the DLT and the police.

Looking at the photograph without the caption one would have thought the driver was receiving an award from the cops for returning a wallet to the tourist.  Anyway he has a right to be pleased because he has not received any serious punishment and is free to continue ripping off tourists the same day.  The cops are pleased because they have a nice group picture to post on Facebook and have received some sort of payment from the driver not to let him off with a light punishment.

Why not take ten cops out on a trip to say Nanna, stop the taxis and see if their meter is on,or undercover and hail a cab to take you to an embassy, could fine/find at least 10 an hour, come on Royal T P, a nice little earner for you, or would it be to much work ?

Thai Taxi are so cheap the drivers work 12 hours in this stressed bkk traffic and must pay 600 bth to the owner + gas + wash not easy to make money driving a taxi.

How much cost taxi in Tokyo London Paris Berlin.

So its OK to break the law. And how much is rent, gas, wash in Tokyo London Paris Berlin and i believe in those country's they use their meters as is the law. everything is relevant to where you live.

My mate and his wife flew in from HK last week for 3 days of R & R, first encounter an 800 Baht taxi ride (no meter) from Suvarnabhumi airport to Sukhumvit Soi 24.

Welcome to Thailand folks............he was so pissed............same route return journey with taxi meter in heavy traffic 400 Baht incl. tip

Got all the first taxi driver and vehicle details reported it to the tourist police on the way out of Suvarnabhumi.

BIB arrested the guy and fined him 500 Baht

What a joke....................the taxi driver still pocketed 300 Baht from the rip off............

Go figure ........no real sense of appropriate penalties for scum taxi drivers in Thailand....

Being overcharged by THB +1,250 and greeted with fake smile are not really the main problem for a regular traveller! The biggest is inconvenience when you are stopped by 30 immi police asking you for the passport that you kept in the safe of your hotel room miles away. Since a certain time; fair skin and dark skin foreigners are considered as devil.
