webfact
Big Oud follows in Big Joke's footsteps: SIX arrested on fake visa/passport charges Picture: Naew Na The new head of Thai immigration is taking a leaf out of the book of promotion of the previous incumbent. "Big Oud" has now got his nickname on vinyl signs announcing the latest arrests of foreigners. The modus operandi used to be a feature of media savvy Lt-Gen Surachate "Big Joke" Hakparn who was sacked in April. Now Lt-Gen Sompong Chingduang is getting in on the publicity act. The vinyl board proclaimed "Big Oud's" policy was carried out in SIX (highlighted in bold colors) cases. These were as follows according to Naew Na: 1. With the help from the "Ice Team" Indian nationals Athul Vazholath, 25, and Aswin Kunnum, 27, were arrested on June 19th and Sidhu Singh,23, and Gill Singh, 40, more Indians, were nabbed on June 21st. Picture: Naew Na All were about to board Philippine Airline planes bound for Canada. They all had fake Canadian visas. 2. On 23rd June Indian national Amith Panda, 41, was stopped by Suvarnabhumi immigration trying to board an Air China plane bound for Canada. He had a fake Singaporean passport. Mr Panda said he had bought the passport from a Nepali guy called "Baba" who he had paid $1,000 US dollars. 3. Again with the help of the "Ice Team" immigration arrested Ayman A.K. Abukhousa, 32, who was trying to fly to Germany on Lufthansa. He had a fake UAE passport and was intending on working in Germany. Ozman52
I'm guessing the fake Canadian visas are to fool the airline, and that the holders would claim asylum on arrival.

ezzra
Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) are not a bunch of stupid people whom you can pass by them with a cheap fake visa and a fake passport, nevertheless, desperate people will continue trying to do stupid and desperate measures, these are just the tip of the iceberg... They all had fake Canadian visas. is that a crime in Thailand ? or does it become a crime in Canada? then, if their passports were valid and had necessary visas for Thailand, was it not just an irregularity at the check-in and thus an airline civil matter? inactiveposter
I read the headline quickly and processed it as fake charges against them.

You're assuming their passports were real. Under international law - attempting to travel with a fake passport is illegal. Thai authorities were within their rights to act. Russell17au
It appears that "Big Oud" has a hearing problem because the officer standing next to him explaing the board needs a micropone so that the volume can be turned up for "Big Oud" to be able to hear what he says. "Big Joke" did not have that problem. But if "Big Oud" is following in "Big Jokes" footsteps then he wont be around for long.

dcnx
These guys and their printed boards. If they actually did their job all the time they wouldn’t need to show off when they actually did something. But when you’re an absolute failure in life and you live in a failed country that you’re forced to kneel to, it does make a little sense to show off when you do something that a nutless monkey could be trained to do. I'm not sure that would work? If they dumped the passports and tried to claim asylum they would be sent back to Thailand who should have spotted the fakes (as they would have had passports to get on the aircraft.... I think claiming asylum on entry only works if you're flying out of the so called "dangerous country" ? They would have either been deported back to Thailand or India.
