A seminar held in Pattaya organised by the Department of Special Investigations (DSI) showed Thais how to use regulations promulgated in 1979 to protect local business interests.

DSI deputy Korawat Panpraphakorn said that since ASEAN agreements had come into force more foreigners were doing business in Thailand.

But while much was legal it was often a cover for illegal activities that harmed Thai business interests unfairly.

The purpose of the seminar at the M Hotel in Nong Prue was to help people understand the regulations related to foreign nominees in particular as a way of leveling the playing field.

The meeting was attended by participants from many fields and concentrated on action that might be taken in Chonburi, Surat Thai, Khon Kaen and Chiang Mai.

If they're breaking the law, deal with them appropriately. If they're taking advantage of a loophole, close that loophole. It's not really that hard.

What a croc! If other businesses are offering a better service or product at a cheaper or equal price, the Thai's call foul with their favorite line .... 'we are not ready to compete yet.'

They weren't ready 15 years ago and they still aren't ready. The unfortunate thing is that if they can't close you down by legal means, then you can expect to receive one behind the ear!

I think that Thais harm Thai businesses more than foreigners.

Rule 1: Don't sign the paperwork to allow it.

Why is it surprising that people need telling this?

Because you can tell them a mile away but you can't tell them anything close up.
