Jonathan Fairfield
Police show their patience with drunk man determined to play the system Image: Daily News An eight minute video featuring a 56 year old Thai man at a police drink driving stop provides a window into Thai culture and patient but firm police procedure. The video starts with the man being stopped and asked for his driving license which he provides without a problem. He then makes a phone call and hopes this will get him off the hook as he hands the phone to the officer in charge. The officer is not having any of that. He still has to blow into the breathalyzer - for around ten times he fails to blow hard enough and it is clear he is trying to get away without the police getting a reading of his alcohol level. Finally after many minutes of trying - with the cops showing admirable restraint and patience and a Thai smile - they get a reading. It is a massive 286 mg with the limit in Thailand being 50. And the driver's reaction? "Ooohhoo! Only 286 - that's not much". Still he tries to get back in his car before he is politely led away by another officer. The incident happened at a checkpoint in Chacherngsao on Sunday night said Daily News who provided no more details as to what happened to the drunk driver who they said was named "Bunsing". Daily news probably don't know the location of the ATM closest to where this happened then. If the driver thought blowing 286 wasn't much, I bet he had a different opinion about when they told him how much he had to hand over.

trainman34014
A fine example of this country and it's 'Tolerant Society' boasts. Complete waste of Police time; better to handcuff him and take him to the Station when he first tried to play silly buggers !

After braking he probably would of stopped 10 meters past the point of where he ran over one your loved ones..

djayz
I feel sorry for coppers like these guys who appear to be doing a good job. They often get painted with the same brush as those officers who aren't so diligent or professional in their duties. Kudos!

wisperone
I would have grabbed the guy by the back of the neck and said blow until I let go. Much too tolerant of that nonsense.
Mukdahanman
Handled himself remarkably well considering he was nearly 6 times over the limit. Unfortunately his reactions to road situations would be seriously affected, no excuses. I hope he gets the punitive shafting he so richly deserves.
