BANGKOK (NNT) - The Election Commission’s Deputy Secretary General Nat Laosisavakul has been transferred on the order of the Election Commission Secretary General, Pol Col Charungwit Phumma.

Mr Nat who had been responsible for the March 24 election of MPs was transferred to the post of director of the Political and Electoral Development Institute. Meanwhile, Phaibul Lekphrom was transferred from the post of director of the Political and Electoral Development Institute to the post of deputy secretary general of the Election Commission. Mr Phaibul has been assigned to be in charge of public participation, while Deputy Election Commission Secretary General Metha Silaphan has been assigned to be in charge of elections and public referendums.

The recent election of MPs had been prone to criticism due to reported errors in the Election Commission’s handling of it regarding the division of electoral constituencies and the scheduling of the election date, which allegedly favored the National Council for Peace and Order and Palang Pracharath Party. Besides, absentee ballots from New Zealand were belatedly delivered and not counted.

Mr Nat was also held responsible for alleged errors in the reporting of the vote counting results, the announcement of the vote counting results and the controversial formula for the counting of votes for party-list MPs. Mr Nat had allegedly failed to give clarifications or maintain public confidence in the Election Commission’s handling of the election.
