About nine years ago, Ms. Praewa, then aged 16 years and six month and without a driving license, rammed her car into the rear of a packed passenger van on the elevated Don Muang tollway, killing nine people and injuring five others.

Breaking her silence for the first time since the road horror resurfaced recently, after a TV news program reported that none of the 14 victims’ families have received any compensation from the Dhephasdin na Ayudhya family, Mrs. Ladawan Dhephasdin, Ms. Praewa’s mother, told Channel 3’s “Hone Krasae” program that the family plan to sell assets, including land plots the Pran Buri district of Prachuab Khiri Khan worth 50 million baht, and a large house in Muang Thong Thani housing estate worth about 55 million baht belonging to Colonel Ratthachai, Praewa’s father, to raise funds to pay the 26.8 million baht in compensation awarded to the victims by the Supreme Court.

Most victims were students and staff members of Thammasat University, Rangsit campus and some officials of the National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA).

Thephasadin na Ayudhya clan offers condolences to families of crash victims

The Thephasadin na Ayudhya clan today (Thursday) offered condolences to the families of victims of a fatal road accident nine years ago and donated a 500,000 baht fund to be used to support the legal pursuit of compensation awarded to the victims’ families by the Supreme Court.

On May 8th, the Supreme Court ordered three defendants, namely the father of Ms. Praewa Thephasadin na Ayudhya who has adopted a new name, Ms. Rawinpirom Arunwong, the owner of the car involved in the tragedy and driver Ms. Praewa, to pay 26.8 million baht in compensation.

Representing the Thephasadin na Ayudhya clan, which now consists of about 200 families, Mr. Suchai Thephasadin na Ayudhya told a news conference today that the clan had not sat idly by since the accident and had been urging Praewa’s family to comply with the court’s order. When the clan learned that no compensation has been paid, a meeting was called among clan members to discuss the matter and to find a solution, said Mr. Suchai.

Seems that the sleazebag mother and father managed to drag the case through the courts for 9 years. I suspect that now they will take their time supposedly realizing assets, totally ignoring the plight of the "less worthy" families that their daughter destroyed. All we need now is picture of them waiing at a temple to apologize for the delay and we have a complete example of much that is wrong in Thai society,

Yes,but at least they are beginning to be crucified on social media as the Thai begin to turn against their worthless so-called "elites" who have had it it so good for so long.

And what country has ever had to bear the burden of such a worthless pack?Greedy, avaricious, unintelligent, without social conscience, making a mockery of their religion on a daily basis-and very quick to use the sword when challenged.

Now they are being exposed for what they are and they do not like it all.

And 9 years later what’s the solution? Maybe the killer and her family will start threatening to file defamation suits against the victims’ families as they already promised they’d them, so the victims’ families are just being unreasonable.

I wonder how the other hiso families treat this family with the totally unacceptable behavior.

Are they all like this?

You would think they would have a very bad conscious - but maybe I just don't understand the hiso...

"You want us, the highest of the almighty Hi-So tribe, to give 26.8 million Baht to a gaggle of low class proles??? Yeah, right...like that's going to happen. Here's 500,000...take it or leave it."

Still the rest of the family is giving money so the other part of the family can be taken to court more. Probably by social media pressure or they did not know. But you can't blame a total family for the deeds of a few. I would not want to be held responsible for what my nephew did (if he did something). Point the anger where it should go the part of the family that is not paying.

Bit unfair, that is like you having to pay for the misdeeds of an uncle or an even further related family member. Put the anger where it should go the direct family that are responsible.

Plus this 500.000 is for lawyer fees to go after their own family. It not compensation its helping the victims have more money for lawyers to go after the part of the family that is responsible.

The whole family should be jailed. Why did they let a 16 year old <self deleted> drive a car?

Well that's good news; I was beginning to think, after nine years, they were trying to wriggle out of the court's decision.

The family are scum.
Why did they not pay the compensation in the first place, only now selling an asset the settle the debt.
They whine about sleepless nights, if they had done the right thing 9 years ago they might have got some closure.
In typical Thai fashion they thought their HISO status would make it go away, glad to see that this has not happened.
Red Bull next ?  No, no, no I know I just a hopeless dreamer.

Planning would have started the day of the court decision,

"oh sh1t, what a bummer, oh well they are nobodies, otherwise they wouldn't be travelling in a van. So we can ignore the judge and the compensation- he knows bugger all anyway, fancy dinner at that new fine dinning restaurant we passed the other day?

The 'killer kid' should get a life sentence!

She got community service, which she didn't do and the court was very reluctant to do anything to her. I don't know if she did any hours of community service in the end. Probably not.

Interesting that the clan is turning against its black sheep family publicly. Usually these things would be done behind closed doors. Must be reputational damage control or they would all have to change their name.

Apparently, the incredibly effective technique of shaming a cheapskate Thai into doing the right thing, is working. This should be done more often. Everywhere she goes now, everyone she talks to, every time she meets with her friends, people are aware of what she has done, how she has defrauded these people of what they deserve, and who she really is. This is a great thing for society. She is getting everything thing she deserves. Her daughter is a killer, and the family must pay for her horrendous actions.

The terrible thing here is that were it not for the negative press and social media furore they would have done and said nothing for the victims.

No wonder people like them support Prayuth and military coups.

You couldn't turn the clock back far enough to satisfy them.

They yearn for the times when the ordinary people dare not be so uppity for fear of the consequences.

Indeed, bring back corvee labour! Oh, wait, they still have it.
