webfact Posted July 22, 2019 Share Posted July 22, 2019 BMA to spend Bt48.4 million to improve Khao San By The Nation The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration has announced it will spend Bt48.4 million to improve the landscape of popular tourist destination Khao San Road in Phra Nakhon district, BMA deputy governor Sakoltee Phattiyakul said on Monday. He said the project, which is aimed at boosting tourism in the capital, will put the road and sidewalks on the same level and the entire road will be paved with flame-finished granite slabs. Sakoltee said the construction will start in October and the project will be completed in February. The deputy governor added that the landscape improvement may expand to Ram Butree Road, Sip Sam Hang Road and Tani Road in the future. As part of the landscape improvement, the BMA will build 240 vending stalls on the Khao San Road and probably distribute the stalls through a lot drawing system every year or two years. The stalls will be allowed to operate from 9am to 9pm. Mobile vending carts will also be prohibited from entering the road. Back to point, which is: The still do not understand the beauty of places like Khao San Road. HCMC has overtaken Khao San as the best place to go in SE Asia. Like KS many years ago. KS is a dreary, sad washed up place now living on its fading legacy. Bht means that rents will at least double, and street foods will triple in price.. That's right, only fixed food vendors, mobile vendors will be banned.. Back to basics, how about rubbish bins being strategically placed along the 500m road? There's plenty of street food stalls but nowhere to throw your rubbish.. Disgusting.. When flooding hits Khaosan and other areas of Bangkok often the only reasonably dry spot is on the kerb gutter.. Make it all flat on one level and see all the shops in a flooding deluge when heavy rain falls.. Stupidity plus.. The current drainage doesn't work.. No street food stalls allowed.. And flame-finished granite slabs installed.. Hopefully non-slip.. And how much graft will go further up the chain? And 12 mths on I bet all the businesses are suffering because it hasn't worked..
