Two Thai men are now in custody after a series of snatch thefts committed against tourists and Thai people in Ban Phe - the port for Koh Samet in Rayong.

Weerawat Changkhit, 22, gave himself up yesterday along with a Galaxy Note 8 (worth 34,500 baht) that he stole from an Algerian tourist.

Weerawat was riding pillion on a bike driven by 16 year old Noppadol Rungprasert.

Ban Muang reported that the Algerian along with his wife and two children had gone to the port at Ban Phe in preparation for going to Samet. They had been travelling in a motorcycle sidecar attachment.

Hattiten Norser (name transliterated from Thai) got out to take pictures of the view and the snatch thieves pounced and drove off in the direction of Klaeng.

Weerawat admitted to three cases of snatch theft from tourists in Ban Phe as well as two cases elsewhere.

Mostly he targeted women out alone as they would not fight back.

He has been charged with snatch theft and detained.

Noppadol was arrested earlier.
