Deputy Prime Minister Gen Prawit Wongsuwan will apply for membership with the coalition leader Phalang Pracharat Party after the three-day government policy debate in Parliament, a source close to him said.

The source said Prawit would definitely join the party. The party has yet to consult with Prawit about an executive post for him, the source added.

The government is scheduled to deliver its policy statement to Parliament on Thursday, with debate expected to continue until Saturday.

The source added that the party is now consulting with its legal team about the proper timing for Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha to take the party helm.

Ha ha ha! Yeah - Health Minister with special responsibility for medical emergencies. Probably with evacuation by air - so to speak.

proper timing consultant? - that's a job for Prawit, not a "legal team", can't they see that?

Let then play their kindergarten games, keeps them from creating more stupid problems.

Thailand has enough already without any more being added.

Hopefully, he will drag them down !

Unfortunately they will prop him up... he should be let out to pasture but Thailand doesn't let the dinosaurs retire they give them top positions.

Was he elected by the people to the lower house or was he appointed?I thought only the PM could come from outside of the elected ministers.

Not applicable.

Prawit will be joining the pro-military political party coalition in an executive position. He will not be an MP nor hold a Cabinet position. No public nor government election is required for internal party leadership positions. This is just another way to further embed military leadership into allegedly democratic institutions, but with even less transparency. Party leadership is not accountable to the NLA MP's.
