A policeman is in serious condition after hitting electrical power lines during a training exercise at a camp in Cha-Am on Friday.

A video clip widely shared on Thai social media featured a flash as about ten men descended from a plane.

Daily News said that the wind changed direction after the jump at 800 feet.

The man suffered stomach injuries and was transferred to the Police Hospital.

A man identified as Sophon Jaikhumkao on the video said that the victim's condition was improving after treatment.

I only ever did one parachute jump, but I always remember the safety lecture. One point mentioned was that any power lines were avoided when the organising the drop zone, so that no one could accidental stray and hit them.

A true Thai hero. He’ll be awarded his ornamental jump wings adorned with the rare and highly coveted “Electrical Wire Cluster”. This will make him an overnight celebrity and the envy of his fellow law enforcement warriors. A man who richly deserves promotion at the earliest possible opportunity.

Why do policemen need this skill when all they will doing is sitting in a kiosk,  riding Scoopys or driving pickups with cones or prisoners in the back?

More a job for paratroopers or the Air Force who don’t seem to have anything else to do.

or learn who to use more modern steerable chutes and staggering the jumpers correctly.

The chutes they use are "C10's" with a steering panel, if he was properly trained he should have been able to easily miss the wire!! You can fly at 30kph against the wind in those chutes!

Another fine example of Thai incompetence. A very poorly prepared jump, they probably didn't even look at the weather forecast; the wind at landing was stronger than expected and they have been pushed into the forested area at the back of the dropping zone. With the parachutes they use these poor guys are totally passive and cannot avoid any obstacle.

Maybe they wanted to reenact D-day...

No matter what. He will still need to purchase his promotion.
