webfact
Old Thai jailbird has not learned his lesson Picture: Thai Rath Thai Rath reported that officers of the Crime Suppression Division arrested a 76 year old man at the Pata Pin Klao shopping center in Bangkok yesterday. Suriya Yothinchawaro, 76, was wanted on four warrants issued by the Thanyaburi court for fraud. Suriya - who had previously been jailed for fraud - was picked up for passing dud checks. Pol Col Arun Wachirasrisukanya told the media that back in June 2017 Suriya, along with three others, had contacted a welding equipment supplier to buy goods worth 150,000 baht. He said he was the owner of a big housing estate construction project. He promised to pay cash on delivery but when the equipment arrived he said he would pay by check. It was a public holiday and the seller could not verify the transaction with a bank - a trick used by Suriya before. When the supplier tried to cash the check they found out the account had been closed a long time before. Pol Col Arun said that the suspect had been involved in 18 cases and had done time. These were just the four latest. Suriya denied the charges saying he was just hired to collect the equipment for 2,000 or 3,000 baht a time. He was handed over to the Lam Lukka police. The three others in the case are still being sought. Thai Rath said Suriya was an old fraudster who hadn't learned his lesson.
