webfact
Southern insurgents blow up ATMs, escape with cash By THE NATION Nation photo: Charoon Thongnual Suspected insurgents blew up three Automatic Teller Machines in two districts in the deep South province of Pattani and escaped with banknotes from one of the ATMs. Local police suspected insurgents were responsible for the bombings, but they are still looking into whether the incidents were related to Friday's series of bomb attacks in Bangkok. The suspects burned several tyres and laid nail stakes on roads leading to the scene of the explosion, to prevent pursuit by security officials. Two of the ATMs were located in Khoke Pho district and one in Sai Buri district. Police said the bombs were triggered by time-delay detonators. IMO obviously very powerful devices are needed to open an ATM and they know how to build them, but why wasn't a more powerful devices used in the other cases - I still feel that the city devices were more for symbolic purposes than for maximum mayhem.
