Canadian High Schools Offers Expats a Reasonably Priced Alternative and Many Future Options

If you aren’t happy with the choices of international schools available in your area for your children, Canada can offer a great alternative at a reasonable price. Read on.

I often hear expats commiserating about the middle and high school options available for their kids in Thailand. Sure, there are great international schools here, but the price can be daunting and you still have the issue of location.

Once outside of the school grounds, kids are exposed to an environment that is often not the most desirable. Kids get as many of their values outside of their school as they do inside, so cultural exposure has to be considered for the positive and negative aspects. Add safety standards, the application of the rule of law, frequent change of expat teachers, and the frequent moves of a typical expat families, and it can become a real concern. You just got junior settled into a school that you both like and he has finally made friends, but now you must move again. What to do?

If you are thinking that you might want to send your child back home or somewhere overseas, Canada should be on the short list. It is very safe, well priced, ranked by PISA as one of best public high school system in the world.

We offer just about every type of environment you can image. From small rural communities with a mainly (95%) Caucasian population, a large multi-cultural cities where you can literally meet the world. We offer homestay family programs and boarding schools, or your children can stay with relatives, depending on your preference.

Private boarding schools start at around $35,000 and upwards of $70,000.

Prices for one full year in a government high school range from $21,750 - $28,000 ($16,500-$21,280 US or 515,000 to 660,000 Thai Baht). For these prices you get:

  • all application fees,
  • ten months tuition,
  • medical insurance,
  • ten months homestay, with 3 meals & snack, private room with study area,
  • custodianship,
  • airport drop pickup and drop-off,
  • plus 24/7 access to a homestay coordinator to help deal with any issues that may arise.

Once in a program, the kids can stay for a semester or until high school graduation then continue on to college or university abroad or stay in Canada. We have some of the top universities in Canada and with prices averaging around $17,000 per year, they offer great value.  Students can a 3-year post graduation work permit that can lead to Permanent Residency (PR) and finally citizenship. With the ability to have more than one passport in Canada, easily de-tax yourself once you move out of the country, and return to live whenever you want, a Canadian passport offers real flexibility for those wanting to experience other parts of the world, yet know that they will always be welcome back.

Choosing a school is no small task as the possibilities seem endless and the volume of information to shift through can be too much to sort by oneself. With the competitive nature of the industry being what it is, agents often oversell a program or are misinformed about the complex Canadian education system, so you might end up in a school that is not the right one for you.

However, we can make it easy for you.  If you want to know about Canadian education, ask a Canadian. Just contact us at [email protected]  or call 02-238-1752 and speak with one of our Thai or Canadian staff we will be happy to help you decide.
