‘The boys' club has been obliterated’: meet the women of colour shaking up comedy

In 2017, Tiffany Haddish, the breakout star of Girls Trip, told the Guardian that she has never wanted to “steal the show”. “I’m not a thief. Where I come from, you don’t call someone that.”

This week, Haddish is going to practise what she preaches, handing the mic over to six comedians she thinks deserve our time.

The stars subvert the male, pale and stale status quo: they are mainly women of colour, and also represent queer, trans and working-class identities.

The show undoubtedly breaks new ground in representation in comedy.

Jesus wept why insert  this crap, you could then add transgender women of  colour to make  it EVEN MORE PC

You fell for the bait. Look at where this article was published. The Guardian is as it always was, divorced from the lives and concerns of ordinary working people, read by champagne socialists and bearded academics, constantly seeking out angry positions to oppose anything or any group that seems to represent capitalism.

Women aren't funny because, unlike men, they don't have a built-in imperative to be so.

To put it crudely, a woman doesn't need to make a man laugh to get laid.

By contrast, a man who cannot reduce a potential sex partner at least to giggles (and ideally to full-throated, open mouthed laughter) is an evolutionary abberation unlikely to pass on his genes to the next generation.

The late and great Christopher Hitchens promulgated this theory far more cogently and entertainingly than I ever could in a Vanity Fair piece twelve years ago. For some reason, not many women found his witty dissertation amusing!

So, we are just supposed to ignore the already quite famous and successful female comedians, such as Tig Nataro and Amy Schumer? Okay. Thanks for letting me know.

Tig nataro is an unfunny lesbian.

Amy Schumer is a joke stealing fraud. Google it.

Women just aren't funny, sure you'll get the odd one in life as a mate that's entertaining but as a stand up ? no way - I don't know why but its fact!

That's a bit unfair. I've seen some female comediennes on tv that were passable, but overall, they do polite humour, when the best humour is not polite and is definitely not PC.

Men will never prefer female humour, IMO.

Imagine if a White guy mentioned a Black Females colour and Gender and made similar statements about getting rid of ALL Blacks and Females and taking over .

He would never work again and may possible get arrested .

Its not all about equality , its about replacement
