A Thai woman was recently arrested for allegedly luring another local woman to South Africa last year and forcing her into prostitution. The victim, however, escaped the situation and contacted the Thai embassy for help.

The suspect, identified only as Nanthanat “Ket”, was recently tracked down to a condo on Bang Na-Trat Road and slapped with several charges, including human trafficking. The 36-year-old has denied all allegations.

According to the unidentified victim, the suspect promised her a job in South Africa for a monthly salary of Bt20,000, and promised to deduct the Bt200,000 fee from her salary in instalments.

However, the victim said she found herself in a brothel, where she was forced to provide sexual services for three months, before she managed to flee. She said there were five other women being held in a similar situation. She also told the press conference that she has personally lodged a complaint with the police bureau’s Anti-Trafficking in Persons Division and named three other women, Dao, Joy and Tim, as co-conspiring with Ket. No details were provided about how these four women were connected or the city in which she was allegedly forced to provide sexual services.

You can take some people out of the brothel, but you can never take the brothel out of some people.

How desperate must you be to agree to a 200k "finder's fee" - even if it is spread out (no pun intended) in installments - in return for a 20k/mth. job? What was this young woman thinking?!

20 grand

- X thousand finder's fee

- less cost of living

= not much savings.

You'd be better of working on a Thai fishing boat.

Up to a year or two ago, they had a whole strip of massage shops in the Ambassador hotel "corridor" between soi 11 and 13. At least 15 shops, and they were all clearly "special massage". Never saw any customers except some Indian guys. No idea how they survived either - though they kept closing and re-opening. Now thankfully that entire building has been demolished, and all massage shops in front of the 7-11 that used to be Villa Market have been turned into......Indian restaurants. Not sure which is worse...

As for the OP - sounds suspicious - she claims she agreed to move to another continent for a 20,000 baht salary with a 200k finder's fee? And she had zero idea what the job was before moving? And she worked there for THREE MONTHS before deciding to stop? Nah. Very likely she knew exactly what the "job" was, the salary/commission she was promised was much higher, and she just had a change of heart after 3 months either because the money wasn't good enough or she got tired of getting banged 20 times a day. I know some girls who went to Singapore to "work" - they were promised 100,000 baht for 1 month - which to them is a lot, but in reality when you consider they literally have 10-20 clients a day and I assume not much tips if at all that works out to 166-332 baht per person. There's a reason those "recruiters" bring them there...

They can easily make 100k plus in Thailand - chump change.

Not the munters tho!!

200k fee for what?

Finding a 20k/ month job?

One thing you do learn quickly is that a Thai will screw another Thai any way possible when there is money to be made.trir

True that... and will stand by and say nothing when bearing witness to a swindle, particularly if the mark is a foreigner. So I heard Lol

Good to see some enterprising Thais selling their business experience to lessor developed markets.

Prostitution is one of Thailand's most successful exports. Go to any large or medium size town in so many countries of the world and you'll find them there. Few if any other country's 'public relations officers/massage specialists' operate in so many locations.

I was there 20 years ago, not been back since but even then put Pattaya to shame in terms of quality buildings and bars as you say.  Not  the typical cheap tacky rubbish fitted out for the least price you find generally in Thailand.  However having said that the Thai ladies make up for it IMO.

And I thought that there are no Thai prostitutes? They are all over the world and well known for their great massage techniques.

They have all left walking street in Pattaya, and gone overseas, the police said that walking street was clean
