TM30 - How much is your time worth?

The TM30 problem begs for an easy solution to so many problems caused.

 

• Can you expect your Thai house owner or landlord to have to waste 1/2 a day at immigration each time you travel 50km?
• Would you expect rents to increase (double pricing) to foreigners to cover this inconvenience?
• If you travel frequently, do you want to spend 1/2 a day at Immigration just tell them you came home?

 

No. 

 

So what's the simple solution?  Do it once a year before you apply for your extension and simply pay the fine.  800 baht is peanuts compared to my time and the landlord's time should I decide to go to Hua Hin for the weekend.  Doing it online is a fine solution if it worked.  Most here say it does not. 

 

Pay the fine, consider it the cost of doing "business" so to speak, or just a tax on staying here.  Your Grab or Taxi costs alone going to and from Immigration in Bangkok would rack up multiples of 800b over a year.

The online system works fine, 1,000s of hotels and people use it every hour of everyday. People may have trouble doing the registration and there is a wait for a password but once registered its the simple solution you are looking for. If you really have trouble with the online system there is always a mail in option.

1600 THB up here in Chiang Mai !,that's what i like about Thai Immigration the consistency, 

some places 600 THB,some places saying they dont require it.

My landlord has been waiting for the password for my unit for almost 2 months now.  This week, he made a special trip to Changwattana to speak with them about it and received nothing but blank stares and sheepish grins.  He owns 12 units in my building (11 rented out) and so far has only received passwords for 2 of them.

 

So...it appears to work for some, but not for others.  I suppose I can do the mail-in option, but it’s really pretty pathetic that they cannot seem to get their system to work consistently.

Simple solution is to pay the fine when required. That's what I am going to do if fined. I will not submit a TM30 if my rental agent does not want to. Though she submitted once.

No,not possible. The apps or the website is not available from outside Thailand unless you changed your store to Thai what is for cost reasons not possible. Meaning that my landlord have to travel 9000 km to the nearest IO. I do not expect a rise for me as idon’t have a lease

The solution would be that immigration accept that I have a residence here, so that I don’t change my address every time I leave my residency.

The simple solution is of course to file TM30 as they tell you it has to be done. Instead of refusing and making things more difficult for the ones that wants to stay here and go by the rules.

 

First it was a massive amount of paople overstaying in Thailand. Then the big banning system went into effect, so people that happens to overstay 1 or 2 days have to worry if they get caught on the way to the airport. 

Second it was the abuse of expempt entries and tourist visas, for all that was trying to live almost permanent on them. That resulted in harscher demands and more denials of entry.

 

Now it´s the refusal to do and obey with the TM30. Wonder what´s going to be changed for the worse this time?

Seems to me like there lives a bunch of morons in Thailand on borrowed time, that never learns what the effect of their complaints and refusals to obey rules.

Good work everybody! Continue to make things worse, and openly protest as well as open a new thread regarding TM30 every 6 hours. You never learn.

The website is available from anywhere, if you go to the threads about the app there are links to the APK or how to get the iphone app outside thailand. It doesnt cost anything to change playstore country.

When I went to CW in June, there were at least 400 people who had been in line or were in line to file papers for their landlords and pay a fine.  

 

Do the math.  800 X 400 X 285 days = 91,200,000 Baht.

 

91 million baht.  

 

That says it all, and my 285 figure for weekdays was just a guess so it is probably higher.

I made 2 trips to CW with my landlord to try and resolve or even determine if I/we had a TM30 issue.  I also received the same blank stares and a refusal to answer direct questions other than to say that I will have a problem the next time I come in.  I had used an agent to file 90 report to try to determine if there was a TM30 problem but for some reason she filed it outside of the BKK area and I wasted 2 weeks and 5 visits to her office before I got my passport back but without a 90 day receipt.  My landlord has been waiting over 8 weeks for the password to file online and as a last resort we finally mailed the form in. Now I don't mind following the rules and I can deal with lazy, rude, stupid or overworked government workers but I draw the line at having to deal with with someone that wastes my time and money f#cking with me for amusement.

As with most bureaucracies, with Thailand being no different, the results of the TM fiasco are far from the intent. Everyone is just trying to satisfy a paperwork requirement, and "national security" will not be enhanced. I seriously doubt that the next Erawan Bomber will be found to have a valid TM30 on file.

 

That said, for most you really only need to file a TM30 within 24 hours of your most recent arrival which occurs prior to having visit immigration. So that might be once per lifetime (assuming you never leave your Thai domicile), or it might be once per year (annual extension, assuming you've left the province/country) or maybe one or two more if leaving/re-entering and having to do the odd 90-day report.

 

Until such time as policing and enforcement - raids, you must carry your TM30 on your person, etc. - and punishment (more than a fine) changes it really is a bit of joke, but not at all a big one. Having people self-report is the ultimate idiocy.

An excellent point. I value my time quite highly and so it makes huge sense to avoid the trip to the IO unless there is anther season to go there.....I would spend about 500 baht in diesel to get there and back and it would take at least 3 1/2 hours of driving  plus the time at the office which if on a Monday or a Friday,  could be more than 2 hours.

So 5 1/2 hours and 500 baht vs a fine.....no contest.

Got a friend with a pick up who goes to Cha am, parks on the beach , and sleeps in the back of the truck.Just puts down a fold up mattress and throws over a mosquito net and sleeps. Showers cost a few baht but that's about it.

 

So if you are camping out who does your TM30 ?

The problem being that you in many cases need to have filed a TM.30 if you want to make an extension. In those cases, paying the fine won't be enough.

 

Of course it varies from office to office.
