Nothing to do with the prices as I earn in $ which has hardly been affected ! Thailand has just gotten boring . Telling people you have been to Thailand is like telling someone I have been to Vegas for the weekend . It’s lost it’s mystic and charm . It’s filthy and the people have changed beyond recognition . Seriously even if they have "Killed the golden goose in Pattaya" to say it needs upgrade your infrastructure is a gross understatement. As far as tourism goes I cannot understand why anyone come here if it was not for the Girls. And a high percentage of them are turning into sweat hogs as well so, short of a casino, I can't imagine why anybody would come here especially with families. I expect we will see many businesses close their doors early 2020, after a high season doesn't materialize, and there is no point continuing operations into a losing low season. The loss of a huge portion of the lucrative western tourist market has been caused by many things, infrastructure included, but infrastructure is not the sole reason. For example, there is still sewage flowing into the beach water, and how long did it take them to dump extra sand on the beach? All too little action, or no action at all, and all too late. Thailand, in general, not just Pattaya, has lost a huge portion of the lucrative western tourist market. All it has left is the sex trade, and with the majority of tourists to Thailand now being Chinese and Indians, who do not indulge in the sex trade, that leaves Pattaya / Thailand in uncharted waters. Posted September 7, 2019 Share Posted September 7, 2019 Well driving through Pattaya last night there was very very few customers in the open bars or restaurants that were open to view Never know what "season" it is here but just now it is extremely quiet, with the exception of groups of Indians walking around the pavements Plenty of coaches on the roads and I'm sure the hotels are doing okay This doesn't help the small businesses though, the whole place is changing rather quickly For better or worse time will tell..... I have clearly said before the sky is not going to fall down over Pattaya, nor will Pattaya fall into a big hole in the ground. In my opinion, what we will see is less choice and variety for westerners, as commercial premises previously catering to westerners, give way to businesses catering for Indian and Chinese. We are seeing this now. Of the remaining businesses catering for westerners, it will be interesting to see who will survive, and who will close, but I would say the time is fast approaching where will will find out. This is why I started a thread about this. "Is the closure of your favorite bar or restaurant imminent?" What does this mean for westerners here, in the short term, less variety and choice, probably with higher prices. and in the long term, Pattaya may become Little Beijing and / or Little Mumbai.
