It is fact not misleading as China IS the UKs biggest import source of fish (or processed fish, rather). Again, I was 100% correct and you were wrong. Again.

For me (with far more knowledge and insight than yourself) I would actually challenge the stats for reasons related to "fish" and "processed fish", but let's not complicate matters as that would simply confuse you. But in case you're interested you might want to look up the concept. In particular before referring to gov.uk stats as "very misleading factoid". Good grief.... :cheesy:

He means Iceland the shop.

Good luck with the consumption of genetically manipulated soy and  bleached chicken cadavers.

Any deal with the UsA will favour that country since you are not in a position to make any demands, being a small nation. The Trump will have you for breakfast.

Do you mean chlorinated chicken?

Half the UK fleet is in the hands of the Dutch anyway....

Fair point. This actually concerns me as I see it being a viable outcome. ????????

Do you mean it's the EU that is running away? They've stood very firm from the start about what was negotiable and what wasn't? Exactly how are they running away?

Typical John Bull I would say. All bark, no bite.

I don't agree with your view that UK is "playing hardball". Reading such statement makes me believe you don't fully understand the proposed Brexit agreement. Quite frankly, the content is shocking. We're not the ones "playing hardball".

Do explain. In what sense is the content "shocking"?

First off, I'm not Danny Carlton. I'm not the person who wrote

"Most people get their fish from Iceland so I doubt the price will go down."

You can't even acknowledge that error on your part.

I didn't say your citation was wrong. I said it was misleading. And very misleading in terms of this thread since it's about trade with the EU. Here's exactly what I wrote:

"The fact is you quoted a very misleading factoid to give the impression that China was the #1 seafood exporter In terms of tonnage, yes. In terms of value, no. It's #3 behind Iceland and the Faroe Island. And once again, 5 out of the 6 top seafood exporters to the UK are EU members."

So what you're saying is that the official government stats on fish imports are "a very misleading factoid", based on ....what? I reckon you are referring to Miss Widebottom on Raynes Lane in Bristol who only eats lobster topped with gold sprinkled on top and a touch of crushed diamond sauce? Yes, you're right, in that case the stats are misleading. But if you're after the UK fish imports and not some average Bristol harridan I trust you acknowledge the stats.

China is the world's biggest exporter of fish and seafood.

In 2017 according to the UK government they imported the most fish from China 75k Germany is second on 56k.

Iceland exports cod and haddock to the UK,the Scots eat haddock and chips the English eat cod and chips.

I'm more of a haddock-person myself... are you telling me your stats are accurate? Blimey, I would have thought the other way given the price... Clearly, scots have better taste.

Who elected the new EU Commission Head to replace Juncker?

The ONLY, who are entitled to elect the president of the Commission ( a kind of ministers, but no decission power): the EU council, existing of the heads of government of the EU member states ( so incl the UK -PM) . The EU Parliament has ONLY a veto right. No more, no less.  Time to learn at least SOMETHING about the organisation you are bound to leave.

Just as the heads of the UK departments are NOT elected in a barony ( constituency), but appointed by the UK council of ministers ( I presume)

It looks like you're stuck in the 1950s.  Yes, Britain owed America $21B after WW2, but any information included in my post is well documented in the history books, including the reasons that Britain joined the EU.  As you obviously aren't British, I wouldn't expect you to have read the necessary information.  However, your quote, ".....In spite of this debt In 1950 Britain was 30 % ahead economically over the 6 founding states of the EU.", is irrelevant, as Britain didn't join the EU until 1973, 23 years later.  The only "Greater Good", as you put it, will only be for the benefit of the self-serving Eurocrats who have made the EU the Scam artists of the modern world, that they are.

I remember, when I hitch-hiked from Dover tuill Inverness, a British pound was worth DM 11,90 ( /2 = € 5,95). When the British were invited to join the €uro, a pound = € 1,70. Beginning 2016: € 1,40 and today… € 1,08

I must say: marvelous -25% in value ( so gained in competiviness) in just a 3 1/2 years. . With this, the British industry will not have any problem with a 10% or so import duty into the EU.

OK. Let's use your figures, 50 % of Brexiteers don't use face book. 17.4m people voted leave, 16.1 m voted remain. A difference of 1.3m people. If half of that 1.3m had voted remain instead of leave, remain would have won the day. That's 650 thousand people from a total of 33.5m people who voted. If half don't use facebook, then the trolls had the opportunity of influencing half of those who eventually voted leave, 8.5m people. If they managed to swing 1 in 13 people (7.7%) in their target demographic to vote leave, they would have swung the vote the other way. 7.7% swing is very doable using targetted and personalised messages to individual, more than 60 million were sent out and I don't include the Russians in that, just AIQ, the official leave campaign and Cambridge Analitica, Farage's leave campaign.

I would say that your estimate of 50% of Brexiteers not using facebook is wildly optomistic, I don't know of one Brexiteer who doesn't have a facebook account, with a more realistic figure of their target audience, I would suggest it required a swing of less than 5% to swing the referendum. Cambridge Analytica claim much bigger swings than that in their targetted campaigns.

More ifs, buts and whataboutery.

What happened at the time, happened. It can't be ignored or changed.

Look to the future as that is getting closer.

If Remainers want another referendum that is fine with me.

Having said that let us complete the 2016 referendum first and after about 3 years have another but this time lay down the ground rules first.

Who will be eligible to vote?

What are the referendum questions to be?

What is the pass/fail percentage to be?

If the Remainers win that will be one referendum each so to be fair 3 years later there should be another one which will be the best of three, or five etc.

Government decides on a deal, probably a derivative of May's deal or no deal Brexit. Puts it to the voters, deal on the table or remain.

This is what should have been done in the first place. Government triggers Article 50, negotiates a deal with EU and then puts it to the people. Having a referendum when no one had a clue what the leaving terms would be was absolute madness. Can rectify that madness now with the confirmatory vote.

'Brino or Remain' doesn't work for me, nor does 'cock-it-up-so-badly-they'll-capitulate' which in effect amounts to 'remain' by stealth.

More whataboutery.

What should or shouldn't have happened back in 2016 doesn't matter.

What should be looked now is how to get the UK out of the mess that TM got us into and work for a way forward, even IF it means a no deal Brexit.

After all TM did say on many occasions that a No Deal was better than a bad deal. She and her Remainer government fought hard to achieve the FUBAR  that the UK is in now as none of the barstewards ever wanted Brexit.

All the MPs seem to think that becoming an MP confers magical power on them to decide the future of 66 odd million people yet there are only 650 of them. Bovine excretia.
