Import duty on spares or parts is normally 35%,, at customs ,, the problem comes if they  actually check the true value of the item ,,  if your brand new crate motor is $10,000  and they suss that out your in for $ $3500 duty

but thai customs often tack on handling , storage and other charges ,, which if you argue the cost can turn into ransom  charges ,, ,, my experience is that  4 out of 5 imports  go smoothly and fairly   and the other one is either a ripoff or a total loss

Nobody will ever know ? or can i have problems with insurance ? thank you.

They check the numbers when you go for the yearly road "worthynes"  test..so yes you would then have problems paying road tax  but insurance may still pay out ?  and you may still be able to find some "dodgy"  testing centres.

What if I import an engine to change the one in a car already registered here in Thailand ? Nobody will ever know ? or can i have problems with insurance ? thank you.

If you swap the engine you will need a receipt showing where you purchased it, with the engine number written on it. Show this to DLT and all is well.

The big question here is, how are you going to get it through Customs?

I hear they now have X Ray scanners checking containers.

A car engine looks pretty much like a mirror, innit?

Not even talking about the weight now.

If the engine makes it through, there's no problem at all to put it in your car.

They never checked my engine number in 17 years.

If you're clever, go to a place with this sign and let them do the checks.

They usually check the engine number at the LTD.

They never look for the engine number at these little places.
