I think he did it to get out of the visit...as they planned to set him up by scheduling

Obama in the same month. Was a attempt to create the narrative that all over the world Trump is hated while

the has been Obama is still loved because he gives good speeches.

Right. The Danes are very anti-Trump.

That's whay they are the only European nations apart from the Brits who agree to particpate in patrolling the Persian Gulf with the Americans

That's why the are holding up the gas pipeline that runs from Russia to Germany. The pipeline that Trump has denounced.

That's why they voted not just to accelerate their defense spending, but voted again to speed it up even faster.

Apart from the UK, Denark is the European nation most aligned with US foreign policy. Clearly this will come as news to you.

I've just had a sudden flash of consciousness! Trump wants to get his grubby little paws on Greenland because - that is where Father Christmas lives!

Once he controls that, the the world is his!

Dr Strangelove, eat your heart out - you have been trumped!

Look,  if he is in acquisition mode some country somewhere will suffer from what the US call development, but everyone knows - especially former British colonies - is exploitation. We have a solution, there is a country that is desperate to escape the awful EU, and become a US vassal state, he can have that.

Full independence is a non-starter. The population is only a few thousand. No way they can adequately take responsibility for a land mass of the size of Greenland.

Yep. That's why the Europeans HAD to commit genocide in N.A. No way a handful of natives could be responsible stewards of a vast land... ????????????

This is about what Greenlanders might want. I'm betting that they are miserable as hell about their lives. How fast is their internet connection?

Complete nonsense, Greenland is not a poor country, the infrastructure is modern in the smaller towns and the internet speed is normal, western standard. Thanks to Denmark.

Around 20% of the population in Greenland are Danes, attracted by good employment opportunities and high wages.

Most of the Inuit population speaks Danish , so despite the problems reported in the media, Greenland are doing just fine, and both Denmark and Norway will make sure it will not fall in the wrong hands.

If this goes on much further I'm gonna have to start charging you for your education.

So you were actually serious? I thought you were joking and I still suspect you are.

Greenland was colonized by Nordics from Iceland and later came under the control of Norway. Norway later entered into a union with Denmark, which happened to have a busy capital at the time. I daresay I knew all that. There is nothing here in that article about colonization by Denmark, nor of North America, as Greenland is currently considered part of Europe.

I guess you missed the class on gumption.

Oh, so you've discovered Google? I'll have to charge you for that.

As I've noted before, and you seem to have forgotten, Denmark has given these people the right to secede from Denmark any time they like. And once that's done, they can vote to be acquired by any nation they like or stay independent.

As for condescension, you're the person who would deny them the right to be independent. Remember your nonsense about getting the World Court to intercede to prevent that?

And you might want to read what I've written again. It was in response to your comment about them being miserable as hell. This is invariably the result when indigenous people start getting Westernized. I'm not opposing westernization which is inevitable. Just pointing out the consequences. How are Native Americans faring in the USA?

But aren't you pleased to learn that Greenlanders do have access to high speed internet?

Enough of the political point-scoring. It's banal and tedious.

My simple position: An interesting possibility has been raised that Greenlanders should consider.
Your position: This initiative must be disparaged as far as possible in order to prevent Trump pulling off what would be an amazing political coup.

I am completely impartial in this issue. I have opinions both left and right and am not even American. Let Canada put in an offer too.

As you brought it up, the North American Indians have been given every opportunity - they have their own nations and can organise themselves how they want. The rest is up to them. Fact is, they don't want to engage much, they are quite introverted and not great at social organisation or self-control (alcohol has to be kept away from them) - if they choose to set up casinos rather than universities, that's their business. But if they are not happy they have only themselves to blame.

You'll have to redo your history and social studies exams.

"I thought that the prime minister's statement ... was nasty. I thought it was an inappropriate statement. All she had to do is say: 'No, we wouldn’t be interested,'" Trump told reporters at the White House on Wednesday. "She's not talking to me. She's talking to the United States of America. You don’t talk to the United States that way, at least under me."

if you (or the USA) want to be respected than start respecting others and all will be settle.... being bossy and pushing people (countries) around wouldn't help making friends/allies and that's why you (the USA) find yourself alone

Talking about the 21st century, not history.  For a long time there's been nothing to stop an American Indian becoming POTUS. Perhaps one of the Greenland Inuit, if they join up, might fancy their chances.

And now he has tweeted she is wonderful.

I couldn't find that news, but no matter, I expect you think like I do, that nothing coming from him is surprising any longer.

It is all so simple.

1) People don't generally sell their countries.

2) If you were naive enough to think that one might, then if you have the tiniest bit of working brain, you make discreet enquires to see if it might be possible.

3) You avoid making grandiose statements about it before you know if it is possible, because (if you have the tiniest bit of working brain) you know that you are in danger of looking like a total fuc#ing idiot to the whole world.

He doesn't, and he does.

It appears that - however ropey he was before- he is finally loosing the plot altogether at this stage.

Leading Republicans are probably wondering if they can get rid of him before he cracks up completely.

Maybe he has some sort of nasty woman fetish, waiting to hear "you've been a bad little boy, haven't you Donnie?" and getting his due punishment

There has been some buzz as of late that he'll be challenged in the primaries.  As a politician he hasn't a clue, but as a reality star-insult comedian he shines.  He's not really a Republican, you know, he signed up as one to run for the office.  The life-long GOP "true believers" despise him, and this would come out in the primaries.  He could crack, the name-calling and personal attacks will only get him so far with that bunch, but of course he can always say they are working with the Clintons and Obama, who his rabble loves to hate.  It's all about the rabble.

On the other hand one of his inner-circle has "turned" on him, pushing to primary him out (primary used as a verb here).  But the fellow saying this is a very smart guy, so I suspect there is some kind of ruse up his sleeve where the Orange Guy comes out for the better.  Anyway this is a different topic and surely will have it's own thread soon.

Or maybe he wanted to "grab her by the pussy" but he knew he would not have access so he cancelled.
