I had two macbooks in my hand carry luggage (mine and wife's) and the security person checked both and explained that certain macbooks are not allowed on board. That was in Ho Chi Minh.

I have a plan to go to Vietnam. Did security person open your laptop and check the version and serial? How did you do at that time? leave your MacBooks?

I have a 2017 MacBook Pro - it is not affected by the issue but there's no way to know that by looking at it.  It is always in my carry on bag and I take it out at security as you are expected to.  Nothing.

Since the ban I have been to Singapore and back on TG.  No questions at check in or at security screening either in Bangkok or in Singapore.

I have also been to HCMC and back.  Flew out on Vietnam airlines, flew back on Thai.  No questions asked at all, anywhere.
