But is the engineer any good, in total with 3 shops and a house 9 air con units and it seems a never ending task to find a reliable and not man claiming to be an engineer, a good sign is his kit, if he comes without a ladder tell him to keep driving, if he asks for money up front tell him to keep driving, many are dreamers thinking maybe they will find a switch turned of which they can flip and a quick 2000baht, after several failed attempts including the one who had a quality secondhand unit for 6000 fitted but could we pay him upfront 555, we have found and give all the work to a competent man and his boy who are clean workers and sort problems at the first attempt. sherwood Posted August 23, 2019 Share Posted August 23, 2019 Had a Gekho fry itself on my AC control board (split system) got the new board online for 1400 baht and replaced it myself. Works fine until the next gekho finds it's way into the unit. The fault code was easy enough to trace. He did some cleaning outside at the compressor (I was inside so didn't see what he was doing but could hear work going on) then in the bedroom he dismantled the ac and cleaned everything, flushing water through it using a huge plastic bag to collect the water. Sorry, I thought were being sarcastic rather than sincere, it is difficult to gauge someones intent from just the written word sometimes. I don't recall dismissing any of the suggestions on here, some people may have skipped some of my replies as I have already changed the batteries, checked inside (under the covering of the inside unit) and as reported it mysteriously rectified itself and now seems to be working normally. for how long I don't know. I can't authorise repairs off my own back, I have to report faults to the landlord and wait for him to get back to me as he has a number of properties and a 'Team' of workers who do the stuff for him, last time I did something off my own back he wasn't very happy, the washing machine went tits up and I just went out and bought a new one, and told him a few weeks later, ???? He wasn't a happy bunny, I have had small repairs done without telling him but with this he has to authorise repair or replacement. So thanks to everyone for your invaluable input, professionals will be here on Saturday to fit a new AC. Sometimes a smartarse question deserves at smartarse answer. i have noticed there can be a large price differential for split ac in thailand vs developed countries. i bought capacitors and a temp probe in bangkok and all under 300 baht. i see the same parts in usa for many times that price and likely all made in china anyway. noticed as an ac gets old things just dont work as well as when new despite basic service Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

It should also never need topping up, unless you have a leaking system, then the system should be fixed first. Step 4 is on a par with waving a dead chicken over your keyboard as an IT procedure, apart from the fact that at least you can eat the chicken afterwards. ???? Pdavies99 Posted August 23, 2019 Share Posted August 23, 2019 Surprised no one has particularly mentioned it....it is nearly every time that the remote has packed up, very common issue, a universal remote can be bought for about 300 baht, (Note it will need setting up!!!) The reason most times other remotes will not work is that they also need tuning into that particular air-con machine! Tech came and did a reset. Worked for 2 days and then stopped again. Finally the tech ordered a replace IR unit for the A/C. Cost: 1500 B - 48 hours to get the part and 5 minutes to replace. I wondered If they were interchangeable when you set the on screen timer for no 1,and then set the timer for no5 using same remote, which one will not work? johng Posted August 23, 2019 Share Posted August 23, 2019 Air con remotes are a bit different to most other remotes in that they send a complete "instruction set" every time any button is pressed...so the temperature,fan speed,cooling mode etc are sent with every command...if you buy a learning or universal remote it needs to be one that specifies it will work with air conditioners.
