That official statement was from an official in one city/province.  I think it was Phuket.  As you I carry a color photo of my passport photo page and the current visa/stamp.  I have emailed myself copies of all my important photos and documents and put a simple password on the electronic document that at least keeps the honest honest.

My laminated copy of my passport info page on one side, and last extension on the other side cost me 50 baht a year. Using my phone I can access a copy of my passport, if needed.

A couple of years too late...lol

Plus a lot of other areas nearer to ‘the action’. I was living in Prasat during that time and saw all the ‘refugees’ camping out in school playgrounds!!!

At least 10,000 plus out of the Phanom Rong Rai district camped out at schools on the 24. I would not call them refugees by any means. We were coming in from CNX and saw the evacuation centers. We turned south on the 214 as we have a home in Kap Choeng. We stepped into some shyt. Kap Choeng district about 5K were evacuated over east of Prasat on the 24 and this how I found Ryans Resort which became home for the next few nights.  You could hear the artillery being fired by both sides from our home. On the day 3 Kap Choeng was evacuated. I saw Khemer rocks go over our house and land in the paddies. This was April 2011. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cambodian–Thai_border_dispute Since 2011 it has been quiet with no troubles.

Although i wasn’t there then, I doubt if there was very much impact/changes to Moung Sisaket.

An American friend and his family from Kantharalak stayed at our house for a few days when they started to shoot at each others with mortars.

In the end, they lost a lot of business. They should have used their brains to find a better solution. Guns never help.

I was there a couple of times, once with the governor and a police escort who made the way free. All foreigners were invited and we had lunch at the governor's house.

It was a huge income for people from the area on both borders, but they all have lost their income.

Many buses every day, there were always a lot of tourists. Now you can't even get there from Thai side. What a shame!

Where are the Cannabinoids checks in Pattaya?

I spotted them at night in few small SOI, but i already read in the news that they did it on Central pattaya also.

When driving at night better avoid small SOI (shortcuts) and stay in big street, as you are less likely to be checked in public in a main street.

Here are a few photos taken in February and March 2011 from Ban Phumsaron, the village closest to Khao Phra Viharn National Park entrance. I live about 20 Km further east. Rockets hit a school and 3 houses. The houses were rebuilt by the army.

Thanks for the pics!! Sad is that these sharpshooters even destroyed parts of the old temple.

Around a year after it became Cambodia, some friends wanted to visit the temple from the Cambodian side.

Thai wife was denied entry, the foreigner could have gotten in. But who'd leave his wife there to wait?

( Of course would a few guys be happy to leave their wives somewhere and take a new and younger one..lol) A good excuse, it's in our nature, like the Scorpion and the frog)

I went there many years ago and distinctly remember the ‘beware of landmines’ T shirts on sale!!

This house was just off the 214 highway and about 5 km from Surin Immigration. The house was destroyed and 13 year old girl killed. Photos by bergen were also common throughout Kap Choeng. Kap Choeng Hospital was evacuated to Prasat Hospital. KC hospital was taken over by the army for its wonded and unfortunately a couple of casualties. We did a hasty exit when on our 3rd evening back all hell opened up. BM 21 rockets were fired by the khmer. We saw rockets go over our house and land in the paddies. I had 15 people packed into our truck and we bet a hasty exit over to my wife cousin house east of Prasat on the 24, all power was off and the only light was from the rockets being fired. Also the the windows of our truck were keep open due to the percussion of the artillery. When we arrived at my wife family farm about 24 km from our house the guys handed me a bottle of lao khao and a bottle of leo.???? The wife went inside to use the restroom at which time a BM21 rocket went over head and landed just outside in their paddy only damage was it blew the door open to  the restroom.???? The next day we all went to the school and registered. They had a serious set up, tents ,cots, kitchen, food, medical and things to keep the kids occupied and like all good Thai get togethers ..lotto sells and beer. We stayed at a resort just back towards Prasat for 4 nights.. Ryans Resort. Took two rooms. The resort has pool, restaurant and bar. The owner could not do enough for us. That sound from the artillery was heard loud and clear. For the next 4 days I would take the women folks back down to  KC to check on their husbands as they stayed behind to protect their homes. I was told that the all roads were blocked by the Thai military and I could not get through. I knew just about every back road in the area due to my wife family business. When I came into Kap Choeng from the back way there were no vehicles or people to be seen. The strip on the 214 by immigration was a ghost town. All shops were shuttered except for one and it was opened about a foot to let you know the local liquor store.???? Just a few meters further down where the police stop is I saw the only person out a army security with his M16. He waved at me and I waved back and keep going. My wife said I think he wanted you to stop. He was shocked to see a farang out and about.???? We dropped the women off to check on their men and we departed about an hour latter for the return and like clock work the heavy artillery would open up. This was repeated for 4 days.

I thought that I'd lost all the photos of the temple thru two dead hard drives, but luckily found them on an external drive.

I'll post some photos later on of the temple and views down to Cambodia from the top to give those an idea who've never seen it.

It must have been around 2005 when the governor had invited all foreigners to an escorted trip to the temple and in the evening we were "special guests" at the annual Sisaket Lamduan Festival.

Lunch at the governor's house was included, he lived halfway to Phusing. Yep, definitely, times have changed a lot.

What war are you talking about? I first went to Pra Vihaan in 1975. The war was just finishing in Cambodia but started up again when the Vietnamese came into Cambodia about 1978-79. I revisited Pra Vihaan again in 1999 and 2000. I remember some villages around Baan Kruat in Burirum province getting shot up in 1978 by the Khmer Rouge.

Okay, let's just call it a "clash" then between Thailand and Cambodia.

Here's some information, no idea how true and correct it is.

He just confuses a border skirmish with a war.

There has always been skirmishes along the borders. Especially along the Thai/Cambodian border.

Okay, a border skirmish then. Cheers.

This link gives a very good uptake to the Thia/Cambodia border dispute.  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cambodian–Thai_border_dispute

On October 3, 2008, Thai and Cambodian troops exchanged fire with each other on the disputed territory near the Preah Vihear Temple. The fighting lasted for nearly three minutes, wounding two Thai soldiers and one Cambodian soldier. Go to the above link for complete times.

April of 2008 I drove the wife family from Kap Choeng over to Khao Phra Viharn National Park Tourist Service Center about 165km each way. As I recall we parked and walked down a granite like trail that was guarded at the parking lot by Thai army about 100 meters down was a Thai security shake that we showed  the family Thai ID and I showed  my pp we were waved on. About another 300 meters further we came to bridge and guard shack maned by the Khmer army he also waved us on. On the other side you photos brought back memories. I was able to climb the stairs so I sent the family on. They ask where I would be and I said I would look about the market then point to a refreshment tent I said I would be there waiting. About 90 minutes past and I had made friends with a young Khmer couple whose refreshment tent I had taken over. They had 6 different Khmer beers and I sampled all. When the wife and her troops returned 9 total they took a rest and had drinks. We were by all signs the only tourist that day and what I spent for my beers and drinks made this couples day. As we departed we picked up some souvenirs and mine was a red T-shirt that on the front said Pra Viharn Cambodia with the temple on it. I still have that shirt thou the printing is faded. Some 6 months later all hell broke loose. Even the Sa-Ngam crossing was closed for sometime. To this day entry from the Thai side is no go but can be done from the Cambodian side with no problem AND I was informed a short time back the Khmer will now let Thai nationals enter Preah Vihear. With the 2011 flare up the main action was over in Surin. Had F16's fly directly over our house at about 1000 foot and 5 minutes latter the ground shook as they unleashed their load on the Khmer. Had a few ultra light drones that flew over. Choeng Chom Crossing was closed for 3 weeks.

I visited the Surin airpot and saw 3 F16s on the tarmac along with at least a dozen cobras. They were using that airport for military operations and this why that airport will always be military.

Plenty of people would have plenty of customers now, but through the dispute they all lost their business.

Pizza 4 U would now be a gold mine if the temple would still be open.

But also a lot of Khmer people lost their jobs. A nobody won solution for both countries.

I was watching a Surin FC match with all the ‘Cheer Surin’ fans when a drone took off, at a time when Thailand said they were not using any drones. It quite surprised me of the size of it (having never seen one before).

The dornes that I saw fly over my house in 2011 were an ultralight kited out with remote controls guidance system and cameras which if looked closely  you could see as they took the place of the pilot. You could hear them coming about 2 minuets out as they sound-a like a rice machine. They look similar to the photo.

That's an ultralight not a drone.

The one I saw taking off from Surin Airport behind of stadium, was a proper ‘cockpit less’ drone. I was surprised to see how big it was having only ever seen them in news/tv pictures before. It looked more like this....
