BANGKOK, 23 August 2019(NNT) - The Committee on the Emergency Situation has resolved to extend the state of emergency in three southern border provinces for another three months. However, Si Sakhon district of Narathiwat will be among those areas excluded from the state of emergency.

National Security Council Secretary General, Gen Wanlop Raksanoh said today the Committee on Emergency Situation chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Gen Prawit Wongsuwon resolved to keep the three southern border provinces under the state of emergency decree for another three months from September 20 to December 19, 2019.

However, some districts are excluded from the state of emergency, namely Mae Larn district of Pattani, Betong district of Yala and Su-ngai Kolok and Sukhirin districts of Narathiwat. The extended state of emergency is for government personnel to maintain public peace and protect local villagers and property.

Meanwhile, the Internal Security Operations Command’s Region Four Forward Command will propose to the cabinet the exclusion of Si Sakhon district of Narathiwat from the state of emergency. If the situation in any other declared district has returned to normal, it may eventually be excluded as well.

Meanwhile, the Committee on the Emergency Situation planned to amend the State of Emergency Decree’s regulations to change the agency responsible for the use of cellphones by relevant government personnel from the ICT Ministry to the National Broadcasting and Telecommunication Commission.

How many 3 month extensions does this make?

There has been a "state of emergency" in the southern provinces since Thaksin was PM and maybe before that. It seems to get extended every three months with little or no discussion, it is a pity the governments of all persuasions (including 2 coups) have two fifths of very little to resolve the issues.

The 3 month extensions are made x4 per year on very limited indefinite timeframe.

Offer the devout Muslim folks there free flight to any Muslim country of their choosing if the don’t like living amongst other Thais. Learn to get along together (everyone there) or go somewhere else, and stop causing such social unrest n harming n killing each other.

The Committee on the Emergency Situation

On May 29, 2019 the Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister, Gen. Prawit Wongsuwan, presided over the meeting of the government’s committee in charge of emergency situations to consider ways to address issues in the southern region. The committee agreed to propose that the cabinet extend the emergency decree in Pattani, Yala, and Narathiwat for three more months, from June 20 to September 19, 2019, to ensure the safety of lives and property. http://thainews.prd.go.th/en/news/detail/TCATG190530144547590

Hasn't in the past been much of an insurance policy.

Problem is that no muslim actually wants to live 'IN' a muslim country - there's several million in the UK that are free to go if they like

This is people wanting their own country back, they don't want to go to another country, why should they?

Actually most of them don't want as much as that, just recognition of their language and culture, and an end to Thai-ification.
