dsfbrit Posted September 2, 2019 Share Posted September 2, 2019 I am driving from Pattaya to Mukdahan, starting out Wednesday 5am. The cabin I stayed in last time I was there, is right next to the Mekhon and is flooded I have been told. They have offered me a cabin further back. Makes me wonder how bad it will be making the drive on Wednesday. Any thoughts please. I am taking the 7, 331, 304, 2 and 12 this time to Mukdahan. carlyai Posted September 2, 2019 Share Posted September 2, 2019 The new Asian highway is being constructed between Muk and Kuchinari. Some sections (about 4 km) are dirt bypasses. Last week one section washed out, but I'm pretty sure they would have repaired it by now. Lots of trucks use that road so sure it would be fixed now. We're off to Pattaya on Friday and usually go thru Roiet but Kalasin is a better option. The new highway is built from near Kalasin to past Kuchinari, so I'd come that way.I was at Muk a couple of weeks ago and the Mekong was way low, so I can't see flooding from the Mekong in Muk.But it's just my best guess.Sent from my SM-J700F using Tapatalk Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Edit: I realise now that I had read that on Saturday, there has only been a couple of posts since then that are relevant to today, sadly one of them says the roads are flooding again... I haven't been all the way along the new Asian highway to Kalasin, others have, but I think it starts near Global house outside Kalasin and the 4 lane new construction ends about 25 km past Kuchinari on the Muk road. Any pointers are appreciated...Muk is right on the mighty Mekong river looking over to Lao, so for me it's just a nice spot to view the river. It has a thriving market with lots of things coming in from Lao. Lots of western specialist food in the market. Nice restaurants on the river and nice hotel we stay at right on the river. There is an Aus made Frendship bridge connecting Thailand to Lao and you can catch the bus to the boarder, get a visa and go across to Suvanaporn (spelling?). Not sure about the night life but think it's fairly quiet. Building a huge beautiful temple on the hill worth a look. Some nice restaurants right at the Mekhong, the Indochina market with all Krimskrams China has to offer and a few places to visit. But not in the rainy season.
