The obvious solution is to drop import taxes and VAT on imported goods of this type.  Then Thailand can become a hub for tourists from other Asian countries to come and smuggle the genuine stuff home instead of the fakes they buy now.  That would be a real upgrade for Thai tourism.

Hope that she'll find a decent job after this ordeal. Wouldn't call her a criminal and won't cast the first stone on her. 99% of the commenters who are poking fun of her do/did bend the rules and enjoy the perks of their job.

Thai Airways disciplinary procedures that could mean losing her job.

So they're really cracking down... she should be suspended immediately pending the investigation which if correct will mean sacking .... not could!

Salary in the big international airlines competes globally, so the the salary at such airlines is quite similar.

Afaik they usually earn about 100k THB a month, so they don't do this because they are in dire need of money, but just to make something on top of their already very good (for Thailand) salary.

Thai Air stewardess starts about 30k per month. Senior Cabin crew can make up to about 100k per month

You just dissed my home country's flagship carrier !!!

But I totally agree. What a let down, after Asian carriers, if I connect through Vancouver and then onto Toronto.

Flew United once LOL. The kiwi next to me quipped to a stewardess: You are allowed to smile, you know"

Thai stewardesses are babes by comparison.

Not sure why they need to stuff they bags full of stuff though. They get the travel regularly to Europe - they could easily bring back less items. Looks like they sell them at inflated prices to their friends or online.

If I were running the show she would  be promoted.  Paying government taxes and duties is for chumps.  So she got caught, pay the duty and move on.

they need new bosses willing to dare explore their own initiative!

Well, who is this lady doing a little smuggling. She will be (quite rightly so) fired, hopefully forced to pay the exorbitant and ridiculously high duty tariffs and that's where matters end. Eventually she filled in orders by some better positioned Khon Thais - we will see or not.

On the other hand I read, today by the way, another article of 4'000 confiscated luxury cars to be auctioned off by the customs.

I can see, that you can smuggle hand bags, umbrellas and purses but FOUR THOUSAND CARS? Mind-boggling, to say the least!

Thais cabin crew are represented by a union and as such most all aspects of their job are covered by a collective bargaining agreement.

A part of that CBA is the discipline process - and that is a progressive process that has “steps”. Most all proven infractions have an associated step or level/point type of assessment assigned to it.. a few major infractions (and most are also violations of law, major safety or major security breaches) are so-called cardinal offenses that, if proven, are subject to dismissal for cause, without going through any of the previous progressive steps.

.... so I think the “may” result in part, comes from the fact that what happens to her is subject to several variables and not just one linear thought itself.

If this is proven, I’d be very surprised if she isn’t given a dismissal order or if given a dismissal, that any review/arbitration entity would overrule in her favor and order reinstatement.

This is probably not an isolated case.

Disciplinary procedures ok but i hope she can keep her job. She must be devastated already. Am sure she wont do it again.

Yeah right just like the taxi drivers that get caught ripping off costumers don't do it again

There is a HUGE local market for luxury goods, and many, many, many Thais, incl. TG staff, have big businesses on FB and LINE. Many items are pre-ordered. This is done in part for lower prices, and in part for select items only available in Europe.

IMO, taxes (duty, excise, but not VAT) on luxury items should be removed. This would create more demand for high-end tourists to come to Thailand to shop (yes, the VAT would be sacrificed), and with locals buying here, and paying VAT, and more total tax revenue would be generated.

That is way too logical for Thailand

This a really a true story. My wife, at the time in Sweden, ask me on my frequent tips to Bangkok to bring a MIICHEAL KORS bag. But NOT a copy !! So I went to the SIAM PARAGON mall and and I saw a original MICHAEL KORS shop. A 5* mall just to remember. I bought the bag, went back to Sweden. All OK, after one week my wife said you brought me a copy ! I said <deleted> I bought in SIAM PARAGON. We went to a MICHAEL KORS shop in Sweden to check it up. Bingo, a copy. Story not finished. I went back to this shop a few weeks later with the bag and receipt. You know, what the Manager said, of course, this is a copy for sure. But definitely not from our shop. <deleted> ? So simple, they got original stuff from overseas and sell the copies to the stupid tourists. In order to increase their business they  use the THAI AIRWAYS staff to bring in more original stuff. These are sold at the discount to Thai friends and relatives. The copy <deleted> is sold to us stupid Farangs. Never again. I will buy just simply nothing any more in Thailand. And you what, Sale Sale Sale in Thailand if just a load of BS. Real sales are in Europe and the US. I bought recently a branded shirt on a summer sale in Europe for 7 Euro. Was 49 Euro before. That is a sale. Thailand ? Forget it !

"An air hostess was caught with a stack of items on her person and in her luggage.

" Wow," I've never heard of airplane Captains smuggling vast amounts of illegal drugs. Never, ever.

Do we have some real photos of her breasts as I firmly believe that she'd either put my old socks in, or she went to Silicon Valley and got a nose and other jobs done?

I need more proof of how well formed they are to continue giving my professional advice concerning her Nom.

I hope that she had some lovely Victoria Secret lingerie without being too selective about it.

The tiny ones are okay!

And of course would she carry a lot of goods vibes, that's pretty normal even for a good looking air hostess, even when her days are almost over.

When I saw "Loaded" I first thought that our "Supermember Loaded"  had loaded one stewardess with something that makes bad-smelling shi_ and a lot of work before the Thai educators take over and make it even worse.

"Member Loaded," I'm glad for you that you were not involved this time.

Please don't be too hard on me.

Just don't get involved would be my advice.

Is that a summer hole story for lonely men, or just an example of how to waste other people's time?

Please be honest and post your wife's thingies to have an idea on what's good shaped and what not.

It's always better to have some examples, of course only the good looking ones.

Thanks a lot. May the Lord Buddha bless you all or whoever is in charge right now.

Yes, that would be a fine lesson for all. I am sure a thief is devastated when caught also. Unfortunately in a society where there is corruption from top to bottom, all the people learn the wrong principles.
