Residents of the southern province of Songkhla have been warned to brace for smog coming in from Sumatra in one or two days as Indonesia on Tuesday witnessed the month’s peak of 247 hotspots, said Thananchai Wannasuk, director of Regional Environmental Office 16 based in Songkhla.

However, the PM2.5 level – airborne particulates 2.5 microns or less in diameter – in Songkhla at 8-37 micrograms per cubic metre of air on Tuesday, are within the Thai safe level of 50 mcg, thanks to heavy rains and the wind direction shifting towards Malaysia, Thananchai said.

“What Songkhla and the lower southern provinces have to beware of despite the lower PM2.5 level today [Tuesday] is that Sumatra reported 247 hotspots, which is the month of September’s peak, and the smog would take a day to reach here,” Thananchai said, adding that the month’s previous peak was on September 9 with 206 hotspots.

How many fuggin topics do we need on this for pity's sake. I know it's usually a fairly slow news day down south, but do we really need 4 threads on the southern haze?  I mean it's not really a story down here, for all the "brace yourself" talk we've had very little in the way of serious smoke, nothing compared to the apocalyptical pea souper they had up t'north last year.

This problem of smoke from burning of farm fields and clearing of forests has been going on for over 20 years and the corrupt Indonesian government officials do nothing to stop this annual disaster of air pollution and ruining the natural habitat for Indonesia’s endangered animals. Singapore and Malaysia should bomb the parliament building in Jakarta and maybe the rich corrupt government officials would understand that SE Asian countries are tired of them polluting the atmosphere so bad that their schools sometimes close due to the pollution, more respiratory health problems,  and cannot see the sun through the smoke haze for weeks!!!

Malaysian and Singaporean companies are taking part in this problem and these governments are well aware of it.

Just the typical way of business here. Showing no regards for the environment.
