Brokenbone, it ain't the Thai economy doing this.  It's the master, China.  Thailand eats from the hand of China, or didn't you notice?

When some Chinese (well, Singapore is...?) choose to sell something secondhand, be damn sure they have a good reason to. You can hate Chinese, but you can't call them dumb. So, why did they want to get rid of this thing? Has anyone in Thailand yet asked the question?

it is all about loading down, in unpayable debt; any strategically  useful, but not so well endowed countries...

Same thing as whats going to be for next door; as Cambodia will also end up - up to their armpits in it, for the 'improvement' to their domestic coastline, by the new Port...

I beg you pardon, IMHO, Cambodia, as even more so Laos, are 'P.R.' China colonies already, plain and simple, while Singapore is a totally different can of worms.

The one Thailand bought was apparently new, though the design was 10 years old at the time.

Easier to land troops on Phuket than drive all the military vehicles across the bridge. which could be easily blocked.

Mind you, they would have to sail out of the Gulf of Thailand, round Singapore and up the Andaman Sea first. Element of Surprise may take a bit of a hit...

When it would be the RTN chief using the word 'amphibious' for that vessel / landing ship, and not just an ill informed Nation journo, there might be a question rising about the Admiral's 'qualification', as it is not, at all, 'amphibious', as it can impossibly move out of the water, on land! (Dis-)embark means of transportation by land and water, or vice-versa, no doubt, ...but in itself, no, by no means (as opposed to, smaller, units built by the USA, Russia, China f.i., which are able, though in a restricted way, to move out of the sea on land, and vice-versa).

So, ring-ring, The Nation, what will it be?

The other ones being decommissioned, why not upgrade these 4 ships would cost less that buying the one replacement ship. They are playing with the Chinese government to much they will find themselves in a mess in a few years. The Chinese will be doing some tricks with this ship before they release it, mark my words. The Chinese are very smart.

Well, can't have the pesky Chinese drawn Thailand into untainable state debts building unasked for bridges, highways, etc. like in many african countries they gained control of(!) that way, but the silly mega-expensive HST project is one step in the right direction, ...for imperialist Chinese, ...and deep-pocketed traitors here. In that line, totally useless chinese heavy tanks (except a Thai-made Tienanmen), ridiculous sitting-ducks of totally outdated submarines, why not some chinese vessel, ...to land chinese in Thailand whenever needed? LOL!
