Opinion about him from Bolton fans is divided. Some give him credit for coping with dignity in very trying circumstances, others hated a negative "hoofball" style of play and couldn't see the back of him quick enough. Has previous for getting teams promoted from League 1, not so good in the Championship though. He is the odds-on favourite with the bookies, but not a popular choice with Sunderland fans. Personally, I would rather have the ex-Barnsley boss Daniel Stendel. A Nigel Pearson-Kevin Phillips double act has been touted, but I think Pearson will be overlooked. Quite like Gareth Ainsworth for his efforts to climb the league with Wycombe, but not overly keen on their style of football.
