BANGKOK, 19 September 2019 (NNT) - Thailand and China have affirmed their strong relationship in all regards and their desire to continue exchanges following a meeting between the Prime Minister and Defense Minister, Gen. Prayut Chan-o-cha, and the Chinese Communist Party’s Minister of the International Department, Song Tao.

Gen. Prayut welcomed the Chinese minister along with his delegation to Government House, Bangkok. The Prime Minister took the opportunity to thank China for devoting importance to relations with Thailand and congratulated the diplomat on the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, seeing it as a sign of China’s progress. The Prime Minister also acknowledged that Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn will be bestowing the Order of Rajamitrabhorn upon the President of China, Xi Jinping, to mark the long standing ties between the two countries.

The two confirmed continued cooperation in the political, economic and tourism realms and readiness to continue exchanges in the areas of education, technology and science. Mr. Song Tao invited Thais to make study trips to the many areas of interest in China.

The Chinese delegation commended Thailand on its chairing of ASEAN this year, and stated its support for the kingdom at every level, including within ACMECS where it is a Development Partner. The Thai leader asked that China give its support to the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) negotiations, aimed at being finalized this year.

The minister then presented Gen. Prayut with a placard reading “Mutually Beneficial Cooperation” in Mandarin.

I wonder what Thailand has to offer on the educational front. In a recent BBC documentary on China the UK is the number one country that the Chinese military likes to send its students ,unofficially as it was pointed out.

Brushing up on their empire building skills Eh.

“Mutually Beneficial Cooperation”

it's so beneficial that south of Thailand muslim communities & muslim university students are being tracked by CCTV's the same way China is tracking their muslim population in the Xingjiang (Uyghur's) area

Maybe someone will read yours and think you're being serious.

What was the latest goal dear leader kicked? Simply ignoring the fact he broke the law, or was it berating poor flood victims for asking for help?

Thailand will eventually discover the ties become unbreakable chains.

Nah, the Philippines flirted with them not so long ago, and not long after edged away a bit.

All this diplomacy China is attempting is about trying to stave off the impending doom it faces from it's 40+ Trillion dollar debt mountain.

Of course ChiComs have strong ties to Thailand.  They load up on Thai bonds at Bank of Thailand, aka hot money.  And so, tor the past two years, we've witnessed Thai Baht ascension to levels that will diminish western tourism and exports.  So, was it worth it?

I doubt Thailand has woken up as to how China shafted them on sales of rice to African states. China dumped thousands of tonnes of old rice that had been in store for years into African countries that were traditionally Thai customers.

Thailand should never turn their back on China or trust them.
