There are no black and white areas in this profession. They run the gamut from trade shows, to hostesses, to escorts. Many know going in, what they are willing to do. And many are not willing to do much more than just look pretty and flirt. Impossible to put tens of thousands into one category, unless you simply see all women as predators. I do not. I have alot of love and respect for women. I never fault a women for having sex with a guy for cash. It was the same back in the US, except it may have involved four expensive dinners, a gift of two, then sex. Same thing, just far less honest. The bottom line these days, is that the prettier the gal is, the more choices she has, and it is far easier for her to say no. If she really likes a guy, or if she thinks he is very wealthy, it is her choice where to go, and what to do. Good on her. Hopefully, these incidents of women getting harmed or killed are relatively rare. But, there are alot of crazy men out there, so there is risk involved, no doubt. The buildings which are houses of ill repute were called "Turkish Bath" or "Karaoke". Bottomline is, that it is about materialism, money and the society structure in this country. Kids are supposed to "support" their parents, they are supposed to marry (Thai style) and once the girl is pregnant, the common law husband disappears and not to be seen again. The baby is parked with grandparents and the mother of the child then has to transfer endless amounts of money into the upcountry village for the baby and the parents. Only once all this is cleaned up, prostitution is legalized and the law is enforced (whereby fathers pay their share of costs of their child/-ren), then only you can assume that those "pretties" who know absolutely nothing at the motor- and other shows, are upgrading themselves to product consultants and exhibition sales assistants - me thinks!
