Just washed my passport

Wow, I wouldn't dream of getting married if I had to do housework or cook.

I help to do both. Actually,, cooking is my main hobby, housework, not so much, but I do help by taking on the pool as my special responsibility, oh, and the cat  and dog grooming duties.  As she would be the first to admit, doing housework is not my wife's best quality, but she does have other talents!

That was not very nice (but 555).  However, I think his experiences justifies those of us who do NOT like to carry the damn thing everywhere to show if needed when we are in LOS.   And instead, like to have cc size copies in our wallet or 2 photos in our phone to show BIB if required.

Put it in the safe and keep it there till you need to use it for real business.  QED!

I think down the line the biggest issue is that the OP is no longer married. I don't believe for one second that Savannakhet will just reissue the damaged visa in a new passport; they will want a new application with all requisite documents. Time to think about an alternative solution if the OP wants to keep staying in Thailand.

Lots of divorced, separated foreigners still obtaining the Non Imm O ME from Savannakhet, provided you still have a copy of the marriage certificate, wife's Tabien Baan and ID card.

No proof of still being married required.

I hope you have reported them.

I don't know if what you say is true, but if it is, that is clearly illegal.

put mine into swimming pool and was advised by consulate to get another and not risk its use on international travel (they said I might have difficulty leaving LOS and or entering Australia if the holographic and other smart codings fail at immigration.

I did not risk, travel until I got a new passport.

My advice; Go see your friendly Immigration office in LOS and ask them to attempt to scan your passport and read its smart codings, you can do the visa questions/replacements at the same time.

OH! go get a new passport asap.

So citizenship certificate is found and will be sent via fedex.

The lady at the phone told me that with the embassy letter they will issue me (or stamp me) a new non-o at Chaeng Wattana?

Surely that is not the case.... or is it?

Depends where your original stamp was from, if its CW your in the right place.

My visa was from Sahkon Nahkon and the attitude at CW was go there, get out of here

I had to go to CW as I was supposed to fly out next day for work.

The nice girl at the embassy said I should just tell the people at CW to do their job. Easy for her to say

They won't transfer a Non O to a temporary passport, they will transfer your entry stamp so you can exit. about an 8 hour runaround.

This is when you realize the value of providing copies of all your pages in your passport to your IO, as he had everything on file, and faxed them to me.

The girl at CW, looking at my 36 pages of stamps in a very used passport threw them on the floor in a huff and said "why you travel so much" and stomped away. see above about an 8 hour runaround

When I got back from work and had my new replacement passport I went back to my IO in Sahkon Nahkon who knew about me circumstances and he transferred my old retirement extension to my new permanent passport. He had copies of my old passport, never complain about providing those copies at immigration.

Jesus Christ what a mess!

Is every other coutry's modus operandi like Canada?

They would not issue me an emergency passport in Bangkok because I did not have a citizenship card. Fortunately after 4 days of going through junk in my locker I found it here in Canada.

Had to fly back to Canada on my damaged passport. No problem with Philippine Airlines - took it on advice of Canadian government as they said flying almost any other airline could cause me problems, especially if Chinese ????

So, I land in Manila with 11 hour layover ????, book a lounge (it's really not bad as reviews say), get out of the airport a bit.... a nice Muslim lady doesn't even look at my passport just says oh what a nice name, welcome to Philippines in the stark contrast to Thai immigration who said CAN NOT COME BACK!!!! ????????Ok, maybe I won't.

So 2 questions here.

Does any Canadian here know if I could obtain a regular passport without 2 pieces of id? How do other non residents get a passport when they lose it? This just doesn't make any sense to me. What a hell? I am back in Canada. Should I hire a lawyer or something?

Will I have problems getting back on tourist visa? I spent 6 years in Thailand with last 3 years on a marriage non-o visa. What are the chances of getting denied entry on a single entry tourist visa? Honest to got I would probably just buy an elite but not with a temporary passport which is only valid for 1 year.

I'm sorry to ask, but how careless do you have to be to wash a passport?  Mine is in the house safe and stays there until extension time, or travel time.  I suggest that a bit more care if required for this vital document.

I'll answer that as I too have washed a passport. It's very easy to do mate. The fact that it is always in the safe makes it even easier, because on the odd occasion you do take it out, it's easy to forget you have it in your pocket and throw the pants in the laundry basket. Of course you are probably infallible and never f***up. I can tell you one thing though, one time is enough and it will never happen again. It was my wife's passport and she now (more) fastidiously checks all pockets before laundering clothes.

I scan my passport and the latest extension, copy them into word and reduced them to wallet size.  I them laminate them back to back and carry it in my wallet.  I never carry my passport unless I'm going some place that I know that I will need it, namely immigration to get the next years extension.

Don't "launder" Thai 1000 baht notes as it washes off the id that they look for under black light.  I once tried to pay mu phone bill at TOT with one and the clerk called the police when it flunked the test!

Not Canadian, but you have your citizenship card and the damaged passport. That is two forms of ID.

Do you have any Thai ID, like a driver's license?

They don't accept damaged passport as ID.

No drivers license. I was a non resident since 2015, so expired.

Sounds like it is time to get a new Canadian Driver's License

I can't. After 2 years you have to retake the test.

Moreover, it will make me a resident again which I don't want.

You should get a single entry non-o visa based upon marriage if still married.

Easy to get one at the embassy, or the official consulate in Vancouver or one of the honorary consulate,

They might accept it as a ID since it still has your picture and name on it.

For example the US accepts a expired passport that is up to 5 years old to get new one.

The embassy will keep your damaged passport, you CANNOT keep it.

Having just received my brand spankin' new passport in the mail.... on Sunday too (what a service) I would like to confirm that as per advice of staff who examined my passport I put a written request for the passport to be returned because I still had a valid visa. To my surprise I received both passports in the envelope even though the official policy is that damaged passports will not be returned.

So, my question for @ubonjoe is....

Can I return to Thailand on my marriage visa that is in the damaged passport (which is further damaged by holes punched in by Canadian government). The non-o Visa is valid until April. I am not sure if it matters, but Laos visa which is on the opposite side is quite damaged while Thai visa survived for some reason, but it still looks washed out a bit.
