Peter Denis
We will probably know very soon the identity of the whistle-blower (and he/she will need instant protection). Not that it is really important who had the guts to do it, the report - which has proven fully correct as more evidence turns up every day - is the main thing. And focus on the messenger is once again a deflection tactic. But I would not be surprised if it turned out to be Sue Gordon or one of her deputies (the report comes from a CIA officer and is based on information acquired during inter agency office meetings). The way Trump ousted her boss Dan Coates, and then insisted that his then deputy Sue Gordon should not be the successor (because her loyalties would be more to the US than towards him), will not have earned him much sympathy in the CIA. Also the timing of the oustings is tell-tale. https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2019/sep/27/dan-coats-dni-trump-firing-ukraine And let's not forget that the CIA will also never forgive Trump for publicly stating that he believed Putin over his own intelligence community in the Helsinki debacle. But once again, it's the report that counts, and we should be grateful to the courageous person(s) who revealed the mess.

If that is true of the CIA - which I don't believe it is - they would be no better than a biased and petty organization as the current White House is. 1 hour ago, Peter Denis said: We will probably know very soon the identity of the whistle-blower (and he/she will need instant protection). CNN and CBS have been reporting since last night that the Whistle Blower is already in protection. There is also a lot of communication through various news channels that the Whistle Blower is male. https://www.cbsnews.com/news/nancy-pelosi-adam-schiff-kevin-mccarthy-why-trump-impeachment-inquiry-launched-60-minutes-2019-09-29/ Edited September 30, 2019 by Farangwithaplan added
Farangwithaplan
Finally a Republican has stood up to the deplorable threats on the Whistleblower by the President. https://www.marketwatch.com/story/republican-lawmaker-denounces-trumps-tweet-predicting-civil-war-if-hes-impeached-2019-09-29 Well done, Adam Kinzinger. Your contemporaries should be ashamed of themselves for keeping their silence for so long.

Mmmm, agree that I should have phrased it differently. But it would be difficult to deny that there was no outrage from the CIA (e.g. John Brennan) after the Helsinki debacle. And as we are all human our experience will to a certain degree also color our actions (and surely our opinions) even if we try to honor the neutrality our profession requires. Anyway, imo the CIA has abundant reason to consider Trump a clear and present danger.
