No WP? => face arrest? Is this cast in stone?

Okay, few will lack a passport and proper entry stemps ????

Still, I am not changing schools to face 4 more months (probationary period) without a WP. Quavering in my boots every time when returning to Thailand.

What's the latest? Is Immigration turning a blind eye to the plight of say tens of thousands of foreigners?

If your school is in the process of getting a work permit there should be no problem. Just about every new teacher will be working without a work permit at the start. It should not take months to get it either. You can ask to see the paperwork they are supposed to be preparing and they should also ask for a medical certificate that is valid for just a month.

Generally from past experience, it takes about 2-3 days to a week.
