rooster59
Boy, 13, allowed to go home despite his father chaining him to a tree Image: Daily News A 13 year old boy has been sent back to his father by a childrens' home in the south of Thailand despite his father having chained him to a tree. The authorities have suggested he use a cloth to tie him up in future. Police and social workers had gone to an area of Satun near a rubber plantation where they found the boy chained to a tamarind tree. He was taken to Satun Hospital for a checkup then taken into care. But now it has been decided that the treatment of the boy did not constitute cruel or abusive treatment. The father is suffering from severe depression and has two naughty boys to look after, said the officials. He had chained the boy up to stop him coming to harm while the father was resting. The authorities have suggested that he use a cloth to tie him up in future. Meanwhile help is on the way for the father who is trying to raise the boys in trying circumstances, reported Daily News. So many things wrong with this story - the father's treatment of his kids, authorities offhand response and (in)action, the sort of excuses and "reasoning" provided. phantomfiddler
Why not just teach the kid how to play a banjo ? Never have to look after him again ! Defend him maybe, but that,s just a common danger of banjo playing ????

steven100
what a weird story and a weird solution. me thinks there's more to this than has been told …. is the boy mentally disturbed, is that why he has to chain him up to a tree ? sawadeeken
I personally don't find this Harmful to the kid....... It just may be that the kid had 'buddies' a bit older that enjoyed indulging in drugs.... as in 'Yabaa'..... and the father really had 'Good intent'.... I just came back from 'upcountry - Issan' and learned that a 13 year old girl that I knew from the past couple years has married with a 'Thai boy' and is now dealing and using 'Yaa baa' drugs.... If the mother had chained her to a tree instead of just being 'permissive'.... It just might have been a 'different story' today........ SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT........ dorayme
I think it is definitely psychologically harmful. How you feel if you were chained to a tree. Put yourself in his place. Would you feel the it was OK.
