MELBOURNE (Reuters) - American heavy metal band Metallica has canceled its upcoming tour of Australia and New Zealand, saying that lead singer and guitarist James Hetfield has been admitted into an addiction treatment programme.

 

Hetfield's fellow band members, Lars Ulrich, Kirk Hammett, and Robert Trujillo, issued a joint statement on the band's Instagram account stating they were "devastated" by the decision.

 

"We fully intend to make our way to your part of the world as soon as health and schedule permit," the statement said.

 

Metallica were due to play their first Australian show on Oct. 17. The band's Australian touring company, Live Nation, said tickets to the shows would be refunded and alternative tour dates were being discussed.

James has been struggling with addiction on and off for many years. First time he entered rehab was about 30 years ago. Maybe he should have hung it up then? ????

You do not "struggle" with addiction , you enjoy it .

If he didnt enjoy it, he wouldnt do it

Yes if its driving him mad. Just think about the fans that have booked non refundable flights and hotels and his band mates that have to drop their plans just because of one crack head. Time to give it up before he joins the long list of dead performers!

No. Napster was the first P2P downloading platform back in the 90s. The guy in this story is probably addicted to Smack. There is no such drug as napster.

Possibly. But an educated guess, judging solely on his personal appearance is that he is addicted primarily to prescription pills. Alcohol would have bloated his nose, heroin/coke/amphetamines would have left him looking much thinner. These prescription pill addicts find the drugs do little harm to their health, but reek havoc with their mind.

 The bottom line is, their music is their property and they have the right to protect it, which they did, rightfully so!
