webfact
SRT board likely to give in to minister’s pressure and hand in resignations By THE NATION Saksayam Board members of the State Railway of Thailand (SRT) are expected to tender their resignations to Transport Minister Saksayam Chidchob soon, according to sources. There has been speculation for some time that the members have been under pressure to resign, as the minister reportedly wants to reconstitute the board. The current board still has some key projects to handle. The ministry has set October 15 as the deadline for the consortium led by Thai conglomerate Charoen Pokphand (CP) group to sign a contract with the SRT to build the high-speed railway linking three major international airports. The CP-led consortium had proposed the lowest price in the bid, but it would be deemed as abandoning the project if it failed to sign the contract with the SRT on that date. This is the same minister that thinks he can change the Hopewell decision, and now has given the board a way out. Brilliant tactical move.

Quite likely as there are 1,600 Generals to choose from. Perhaps they're selected by lottery, picking the names out of a General's cap. Yeah, I know it would need to be a big cap, but there again most of them have heads to suit.

They are already 100 billion baht in debt, plus the 37 billion they owe Hopewell but are trying desperately to avoid paying. Now they are threatening the CP Group for trying to run away from the contract with SRT for the HS rail airport links. No one could blame them for not wanting to get into bed with these incompetent losers. They have seen what the consequences were for Hopewell. A special mention should be made of Transport Minister Saksayam Chidchob. He is the man responsible for road safety and should be held accountable for the ongoing and increasing tragic road toll in Thailand. If anyone should be sacked and replaced it should be him.
