PHUKET: A driver and his two passengers escaped serious injury this morning when the car they were travelling in struck a street lamp and overturned on the bypass road in Rassada early this morning (Oct 4).

Lt Col Chaliao Taihoo of the Phuket City Police was notified at 4:30am.

At the scene, on the northbound lanes near the Shell petrol station, officers found a grey Bangkok-registered car overturned in the drainage ditch in the middle of the road.

Two passengers suffered minor injuries and the driver suffered no injuries at all....

A testament to the difference wearing seatbelts makes - this news 'could' have been very different had seatbelts not been worn (for the pedantic: although the article does not point it out, that occupants were wearing seatbelts is pretty obvious).

Also, a slippy road was not blamed, neither was brake failure. Combined with wearing seatbelts my 'guess' is that it was foreigners in this car (although not reported foreign or Thai occupants).

4:30am - Pished?

There... ThaiVisa CSI !!! just from one article and one photo !

Guess you're wrong. Foreigner's names would be all over the news.

Must have been Somchai and friends who had a short nap.

Bangkok registration, long drive, driving while asleep?

Bangkok registration is irrelevant. People living all over the country have Bangkok registered cars. Many of the dealers there are cheaper than outside Bangkok.

Just a theory based on the registration, time, and place, and indicated as such by the question mark.

You didn't consider the other posters theories about seatbelts, drunkeness or nationality (!) to be irrelevant?

Or call out the OP as irrelevant for mentioning the Bangkok registration in the first place?

Nothing personal, Old Croc. Just stating a fact.
