Demand for buying these, in baht, drove the baht price up, as is the case for the GBP, due to the need to use the English financial system in GBP. Now the govt has finally made some restrictions on these inflows - withholding taxes etc the demand should (And as I understand it, has) subside, at least partially. Isaan sailor
Thai Baht strong because Bank of Thailand prefers to take in hot money inflows from foreign (Chinese) buyers. It bolsters foreign currency reserves--and lines some pockets. They don't really care about expats, western tourism or exports. And this suits their master, China, just fine. HHTel
Girls working in bars still get around 9,000 baht (300 USD) but boosted by 'extras'. The Thai baht is strong due to the Thai economy - GDP, Capital inflows, low inflation, massive foreign reserves, etc etc.

I remember few years back 1 euro was like 45 bahts....not little over 30..... Is it inflation in Thailand or what Nothing to do with the inflation (Around 1% by year) Trying to explain with some simple things the value of a currency is based on few elements (Rationals or not) and one of them is the country's ''value'' determined by the global wealth supposed to guarantee the currency. The global wealth include gold and foreign currency reserves. Thailand has a lot of foreign currency reserves, brought by tourists but mostly by ''investissors'' (They try to escape the taxes in their country and\or it's money laundering, and Thailand seems to be a safe a easy place for them) nothing to do with a real ''good'' economy if the real thai economy was so ''good'', why to launch the 1000 bahts scheme ''chim.shop.chai''? ''The new study indicates that despite significant growth in average wealth, which increased from US$3,350 per adult in 2000 to US$9,969 in 2018, millions of Thais have been mired in grinding poverty while the richest citizens have kept their stranglehold on opportunities for personal wealth creation'' (19 dec 2018)
