rooster59
Six elephants perish in Khao Yai’s ‘hell’s abyss’ waterfall By THE NATION Prachi Buri National Park officials reported that no fewer than six wild elephants drowned after a group of the animals fell into Haew Narok Waterfall in Khao Yai National Park, Prachin Buri, Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation chief Thanya Netithamkul said on Saturday. Video clip courtesy of https://www.komchadluek.net “On Friday October 4, officials herded a large group of wild elephants along Highway No 3077 [leading to Prachi Buri city] back to Khao Yai forest,” he said. “However, early this morning [Saturday], park rangers heard elephants bellowing from the creek leading to the waterfall.” The officials rushed to the scene to find a baby elephant aged around three years drowned on the top layer of the waterfall. They also noticed two adult elephants, which were frantically trying to advance into the flowing water to save their young, looking extremely exhausted. “After investigating the lowest layer of the waterfall, park rangers found five more elephants, all of which had drowned,” said Thanya. “I have ordered the national park to close the area to tourists, and assigned an elephant rescue team and veterinarians to help the two elephants as fast as possible from falling down the waterfall.” Haew Narok/Heo Narok Waterfall – which literally translated means “hell’s abyss” – is famous for being a tourist attraction, where wild elephants are frequently sighted. The waterfall got its terrifying name for being extremely high and steep, that elephants and other animals often fall to their deaths. webfact
Drones used to find two elephants which climbed out of Haew Narok waterfall ravine Park officials have deployed drones to search for two wild elephants, which climbed out of the ravine at Haew Narok waterfall in Khao Yai national park, after officials delivered a truckload of bananas for the pachyderms to eat and regain their strength. Meanwhile, officials have also strung nets across the creek to prevent three dead elephants from being washed further downstream by the strong currents. Three other dead elephants were found to be trapped among boulders. Mr. Vichai Poralisaengsuwan, head of the Prachin Buri conserved area management office of Khao Yai national park, said that, at about 5am this morning (Sunday) park officials could not see the two elephants, which were trapped beside the creek, and thought they might have climbed out of the ravine and headed into the jungle. The rangers chose to deliberately herd the elephants to this dangerous spot. Without all the great thinking and meddling with wildlife, the poor elephants would still be just fine. If you saw the story on the Thai news, then you know it was probably the stupidity of the people planting the elephant protection on the path that allowed the baby elephant to pass through the railings but not the fully grown adult ones
Nyezhov
Sad situation of nature being nasty, its more sad and pathetic to see the Thai bashing and Monday Morning QBing that goes on everytime there is an unavoidable tragedy. Some of you guys really need to re-examine your own perfect lives in Thailand, assuming you are even here vis a vis in Mommys basement near Brighton, Seattle or Darwin. mickylongtime
The Lernaean Hydra was a monster in Greek mythology. It had many heads and every time someone would cut off one of them, two more heads would grow out of the stump. It was one of the offspring of Typhon and Echidna, the father and mother of all monsters respectively.
