Photo: The Phuket News / file PHUKET: Phuket City Municipality has assigned King Mongkut's University of Technology North Bangkok campus to carry out a project to study and design the construction of an infectious waste disposal system to cope with the rising volume of medical waste on the island. Currently more than 1,300 kilograms of infectious waste is delivered to the waste disposal facility at Saphan Hin each day, Phuket City Mayor Somjai Suwansupana told a meeting held at the Royal Phuket City Hotel last Thursday (Oct 3) to discuss the issue. “This is likely to increase due to the increasing number of private hospitals and clinics on the island as a result of the policy to develop Phuket as a medical tourism hub,” Mayor Simjai said. Thai 'authority' MUST first re-invent the wheel, build in a 'payment' system that handles brown envelopes before tackling the issue of SAFE disposal of medical waste. SAFE is not a word readily understood & that is a worry. They just do not want to learn from one of their smart, wealthy neighbours! Power and wealth must be kept at the top of the feudal 'Thai' system where it has always resided & to hell with the average decent Thai citizen.
