Army chief Gen Apirat warns Thailand is facing “hybrid warfare”

Army Commander-in-Chief Gen Apirat Kongsompong warned this morning that Thailand is facing what he described as a “hybrid warfare” being waged by a collection of “ill-intentioned politicians”,  remnants of communist ideologues and “foreign forces” against the country’s major establishments.

Gen Apirat referred to a recent visit to Hong Kong by a leading Thai opposition politician during which he met with pro-democracy activist Joshua Wong as an illustration of how anti-government forces are trying to solicit foreign interference in Thai domestic affairs.

He did not mention names but showed a picture of Wong taken with the silhouette of someone understood to be Thanathorn Jungroongruangkit, the fire-brand leader of Future Forward Party.  Thanathorn admitted that he was in Hong Kong recently for a panel discussion and a picture he took with Wong has gone viral. He also admitted that he was inspired to enter politics by the fight for democracy in Hong Kong.

Apirat thrusting himself into politics again. Something he promised before he would not do. Telling lies is something that seems to come naturally to military generals.

This could be the prelude and next excuse for another coup.

For God's sake, ThaiPBS: stop constantly referring to Thanathorn as a 'firebrand leader'. We are sick of it. He is anything but a hot-headed, ranting and raving 'firebrand'.

Unlike his opponents - he is sanity and rationality itself!

If we keep our subjects dumb enough, they may even believe this trash...

Believe me - it will be the 'educated' ones, the Ph.D.s and university lecturers, who are most likely to go along with all of this (and perhaps will even believe it). There are none so wilfully blind and compliant as those who have been thoroughly brainwashed by the System - and now benefit from it ...

The general says of these evil, villainous people: '“Their ultimate aim is to win elections, seize executive power, and to change the Constitution,” he said.

Aiming to win elections, eh? Such hellish, vile, disgusting and diabolical criminals!!!!

(I sometimes wonder if Thailand nowadays is a giant, living satire - it surely must be ...).

Yes. Times are getting just a wee bit scary (I would like to say a lot more - but must refrain ...).

I think that for those of us who have been studying the political situation in Thailand carefully since 2014 particularly, and especially in the last couple of years - the writing is on the wall. Something (albeit not enough) will eventually give. It won't be pretty ...

“Their ultimate aim is to win elections, seize executive power, and to change the Constitution,” he said.

Everything he is crying about is exactly what they did but they got to do it at the beginning with weapons and the army. He is a sad state of a human being. I would not doubt any little that he will go a few more harder steps than what his daddy did and he maybe alone responsible for a civil war or total splitting of the country if he does. Should be Thai do not kill Thai, but not in his logic as how it looks.

And the unarmed Thai civilians are about the only force the military won't run away from and hide

So if the civilians were armed like millions in the US then the average soldier might not listen to the wanna be dictator and Thailand might actually be able to have a civilian run democracy
