Thailand is facing what he described as a “hybrid warfare” being waged by a collection of “ill-intentioned politicians”,  remnants of communist ideologues and “foreign forces” against the country’s major establishments.

Could this be a first case for the soon-to-be-launched "Anti-Fake News Centre"? Or should this spout of utter paranoia and xenophobia rather be referred to a shrink?

So if the civilians were armed like millions in the US then the average soldier might not listen to the wanna be dictator and Thailand might actually be able to have a civilian run democracy

The country is awash with guns. But what match are they in Thailand or the US against tanks, warplanes, etc.

No. This gun lobby nonsense is false and ridiculous, unless Lebanon is your idea of a civilian run democracy.

Believe me - it will be the 'educated' ones, the Ph.D.s and university lecturers, who are most likely to go along with all of this (and perhaps will even believe it). There are none so wilfully blind and compliant as those who have been thoroughly brainwashed by the System - and now benefit from it ...

Nothing to do with brainwashing of the willfully blind and compliant educated intellectuals.

Sloth , indolence, laziness, inertness, and torpor is the national trait that cuts across a whole lot of social strata.

How many USA citizens own tanks, exocet missiles, artillery batteries and fighter jets? Non. Your suggestion is a specious argument used by the NRA. Its clearly nonsense.

Everything he is crying about is exactly what they did but they got to do it at the beginning with weapons and the army. He is a sad state of a human being. I would not doubt any little that he will go a few more harder steps than what his daddy did and he maybe alone responsible for a civil war or total splitting of the country if he does. Should be Thai do not kill Thai, but not in his logic as how it looks.

I wouldn't be surprised if he saw the FFP people as untill, and there for disposable.  Letting the army use their new toys...

Assuming foreigners even care about the back water known as Thailand.  He talks of communism, but cuddles with Beijing.  He hates freedom and is incoherent.  He will make a fantastic future coup leader then elected pm.

For God's sake, ThaiPBS: stop constantly referring to Thanathorn as a 'firebrand leader'. We are sick of it. He is anything but a hot-headed, ranting and raving 'firebrand'.

Unlike his opponents - he is sanity and rationality itself!

We have to remember, the media are instructed nowadays....

The politicians way. Which should be compared to the Junta way :

“ Our ultimate aim was to seize executive power, and to change the Constitution,” he said.

Oh.....and grant ourselves immunity from any and all future prosecutions.

Yep! Not long to go before Prayut is standing in the queue at the unemployment office and Aparit's wife visits the PM's palace to measure up for the new curtains.

Apirat says: Thailand is facing what he described as a “hybrid warfare” being waged by a collection of “ill-intentioned politicians”,  remnants of communist ideologues

and then he refers to a meeting of a Thai opposition leader with Joshua Wong, who fights against communist ideology

Apirat, you just screwed up your own rationale, but that's what aspiring dictators do...

Paranoia is an illness.

Apirat and the rest of the generals are very sick people.

You need to replace "hybrid" with "hydra" for it to make sense.

Thanks cmsally. I've been reading each post carefully trying to sleuth out the justification for using the word "hybrid" by the army chief. (thought that might mean guns and digital propaganda)

But your suggestion of "hydra" might be more correct. I had to do a Wiki on "hydra".

Hydra is a fictional terrorist organization appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics.

No need for weapons - civil peaceful disobedience - if Thais would only realize what power they could exercise getting together and unite.

They just can not step over their from Buddhism acquired selfishness and mai pen Rai attitude - unite and a general strike would bring this country to its knees within 2 weeks and there is nothing the army can do about it - if people just stay home the soldiers can shoot themselves in the foot if they want to but they could certainly not keep the country going.

And as for the army Chief - let me put it nicely - brainwashed sad little excuse for a man, not willing to expand his limited horizon! No idea, no vision, no charisma, questionable character and son of a traitor and thief who has never done anything productive for this country - Zivilversager as the Germans say.

I am in broad agreement with you. However any ringleader(s) can expect their doors to be kicked in at 3AM and be hauled off god knows where for god knows how long. The threat to their lives and liberty is great and they know this.
