rooster59 Posted October 12, 2019 Share Posted October 12, 2019 Two dead as train hits car in Trang By THE NATION Two brothers were killed outright when their car was hit by a train as they drove across an ungated level crossing on Friday in Trang’s Kantang district Officers from Kantang Police Station rushed to the railway crossing on Patiew-Klongcheelom Rd. in Klongcheelom subdistrict where they found the wreckage of a bronze Toyota Vios sedan, license plate Kor Tor 8747. It had been hit side on by the locomotive of express train no.167 travelling from Bangkok. The driver and passenger were later identified as brothers Thossaporn Sitthipan, 28, and Sorawit, 25, both from Kantang. Sorawit had got married the day before. Wiwat Amphan, who witnessed the accident, said he saw the car trying to cross the railway but the driver was unable to make it in time and was hit by the oncoming train. “The crash was so devastating that the train dragged the car wreckage along the track for about 800 meters, causing a loud screeching noise,” he said. “This crossing is very dangerous and I hope that State Railway of Thailand will install a proper barrier to prevent future accidents.” The bodies were taken for autopsy to Kantang hospital. On some very small country roads there are no lights or barriers there s one about 2 km from my house you just have to look . These roads maybe take 50 cars a day at most(if that) and now with the new southern dual track are having flyovers built at every crossing I am between PKK and chumphon this is in Trang So no change there i would assume Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Bizarrely, the Thai use of the English word 'bronze' to denote a colour rather than the alloy does not equate to the English use of the English word 'bronze' to denote a colour. Surely, a large object coming down the train track with one big light in the center and its loud horn going off must have given the driver a hint that a train was coming. rickudon Posted October 14, 2019 Share Posted October 14, 2019 On the way home from shopping tonight, within a one kilometre stretch of road, 5 motorbikes pulled out in front of me from being parked without first looking to see what was coming or indicating they were pulling out. Mirror, signal, manoeuvre not known here. I could easily kill a dozen a week without really trying. I always assume my car is a magnet and all other road users are iron ….. it does seem many Thais are oblivious to the dangers of their driving habits.
