BANGKOK (NNT) - During the "Government Weekly" program on the Thai Khu Fah Facebook page, Prime Minister/Defense Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha said he was concerned about low-income earners and was seeking additional measures to help them.

Gen Prayut said the government has studied data, both domestic and international, especially those from China which could show how over 10 million people were brought out of poverty. The Chinese government has been agreed to allow a working group of officials from Thailand to study measures used to improve the people’s quality of life, albeit that measures to be taken in Thailand might be different from those used in China.

Data on and indices of human development in the five most developed provinces and the five least developed provinces will be thoroughly studied. He said the government will find the most suitable measures, which will be a time-consuming process.

The prime minister was also concerned over the people consuming too much sweet and salty food, which might cause diseases such as diabetes and kidney problems. Measures will be taken so food manufacturers reduce the sugar content to within safety level.

Meanwhile, the prime minister said fragrant plants on Government House premises have been grown to make a beautiful landscape to welcome the country’s guests and it was not about Feng Shui.

go on a junket using Thai Air; consuming vast amounts of food and finally concluding that poor people should eat cake.

"He said the government will find the most suitable measures, which will be a time-consuming process."

You bet, lots of committees, overseas trips etc. In the meantime, just to help the "poor people" we will try to get rid of as many ex-pats as possible who support the local economy and their Thai families.

Got to keep the peasants down.

Don't want them becoming wealthier or being educated on real news by aliens!

The milk of human kindness of the PM is sure to touch the hearts of many. So will his display of insincerity,

He must have learned about caring and kindness for humanity from all those years years he served in the military.

Get rid of all those old Expats and stop thousands of others from coming to Thailand - those old Expats who often  (eventually) marry Thai girls and support whole families. That was such a great thing to do you dingbat. There are so many words to describe this 'Govt' - but all would be [deleted].

Mr PM, you have already been more than generous, you have given them submarines, attack helicopters, armed personal carriers, proposed high speed rail and trains, not forgetting the ever useful aircraft carrier from others, you are in danger of over indulging the low income earners to the point they will take it all for granted. You've allowed them to keep using paraquat to protect their crops, guaranteed good prices for their rice. They will survive, time to kick back and acquire a few new watches for the collection.

thailand has the biggest gap in the world between rich and poor. Within the last years, while prayuth took power 5 years ago, they rose up above india and russia.

there are 3mln workers on wages 30k/year.

there are 10mln workers on 100k/year.

there are tens of $ billionaires, with the richest estimated 70bln, who amassed their wealth within just 1 generation.

any program for poor won't work - it will be stolen by corrupted officials. Exactly as it's happening now.

before the next general elections there would be handouts to poor and bananas for politicians handed out from the public money, in the meantime armed soldiers would maintain peace and order on the streets, as they were doing for the last 5 years

it's the whole system that needs to be changed. And it won't be done by the ruling elites, but by a mass of educated and motivated people

How ironic, stated by the same who stripped freedom of speech and didn't improve anything on the education system for many years. Critical thinking in the classroom ... yep ????

Did you not know that Thai kids will soon have computer programming at Anuban one and two?

In the near future, six and seven year olds will write new computer programs for Apple and Microsoft and all of us.

I'd include English courses for many local teachers as well.

You can't teach what you can't do, can you?

Exactly, remember the 'we don't need international teachers, we teach the teacher' program 3 years ago?

It's becoming clearer and clearer that this PM treats the average Thai in a similar manner to China's attitude to Hong Kongers.

billy liar was a film...dont remember it as a tv programme...think it was set around Bradford !!!

Billy Liar is a 1959 novel by Keith Waterhouse, which was later adapted into a play, a film, a musical and a TV series. The work has inspired and featured in a number of popular songs. The semi-comical story is about William Fisher, a working-class 19-year-old living with his parents in the fictional town of Stradhoughton in Yorkshire. Bored by his job as a lowly clerk for an undertaker, Billy spends his time indulging in fantasies and dreams of life in the big city as a comedy writer.

The tiny wages they pay in Thailand should be looked on by the rest of the world as slavery. Long gone is the excuse "if you raise wages prices will rise", when Thailand has become more expensive than the UK. Greed and curruption is a sick cancer that spreads and grows rapidly every time democracy is stolen by the military. It is so sad. I get so angry when I read General this and military in the same sentence because being ex military and coming from a military family these billionaire are nothing more than Mafia Don's.

Prayut: "Yes I'm very concerned about low income earners, that's why I want to create a new taxes for billionaires, like me. You know billionaires, like me, create all the wealth....the employees don't contribute at all really, so the billionaires and hisos, like me, should keep all their money and the lazy idea good-for-nothing low income people should have to pay a special tax to billionaires, like me, to thank them for all their hard work."
